I ran the half. Yeah, what the hell was up with that ramp??? I can't believe they couldn't extend the route on Beach Blvd. That was a total surprise and I nearly died haha. Oh well, I still managed to PR by like 30 seconds, but man that was demoralizing at the end. Other than that, I agree that it was a good experience given the circumstances and I was happy to finally run a real race. My wife and I stayed at the Beau which was convenient. Ate at Stalla the night before and had a nice brunch at White Pillars after the race. We'll probably return next year.

Yeah really convenient race if you stay at one of the nearby hotels/casinos. We were at the doubletree, so I just walked out the door and hopped on the shuttle. I know my wife appreciated not having to get up.

no, wasn't my day. training went really well. my tempo runs were the strongest they've ever been. but from mile 1 i could tell something was a little off. still, i was a little ahead of bq race through mile 16, then the wheels fell off the last 10. it's such a helpless feeling when you watch your average pace fall off a cliff.
ended up 5 minutes slower than my PR. so it's back to the drawing board. thinking about taking another crack at the marathon in a month or 2. or maybe a 50k in late January. trying to decide what's next.

1999;
bad days happen to everyone. have you figure out what went "wrong"? If BQ is your goal how far off are you? Running a road 50k isn't much different than a marathon unless you are trying to win. I guess my point is, if BQ is your goal stick to it.

10 minutes off a BQ this race. Was 4 minutes off at Louisiana last year. Getting a BQ is my A goal...but there are other things I'm wanting to do. There's a 50k race I've had my eye on for a few years, and I've also wanted to do a 50 miler. So I have multiple goals, but the BQ is always at the top. I have a Chicago qualifying time, so I might give it another shot then.

1999 - you'll have no problem running the 50k if you are 4 minutes from BQ time unless its a mountain trail race. you just need to fuel a little more and a little sooner during the run so that when you hit mile 25 you aren't bonking and can cruise out the next 10k.
50 miler is a different animal and requires slightly different training plan which is why i suggest if BQ is your A goal, focus on that and get it done. you start mixing training plans and you take the chance at not reaching either goal.

Today was the first day this winter (in Houston) that I walked outside and quickly noped the idea of running. Quick reminder I need better warm running gear.

How cold? And what type of gear?

Yeah I’ve done a couple of trail 50k’s. Did one last year 6 weeks after LA marathon and it worked out really well. Marathon fitness really propelled me. The specific race I’m looking at is Mountain Mist 50k in Huntsville. Will probably do weekend runs at my local state park. Would then target a 50 miler for March, take a little time off and ramp up for Chicago starting in June. Would love the BQ, but mentally might be better to look at some other goals for a few months.

6 miles @ a 8:28 pace tonight. Felt great. Hip not bothering me at all. Way faster than I had anticipated. Ate pizza. Drank beer.

Did a test run on the treadmill to see how my recently tender right ankle would hold up. It held up very well on a 3 miler.
Gonna get back to the road this weekend because I hate treadmills lol.
First race of 2021 will be a 25k 2 mountain peak trail race in March. First peak is about 3,000 feet and the other is about 2,000 feet. Can't. Wait.

Curious about this as well. Ran last night in a long sleeved running shirt and shorts. I was a little cold until about mile two, then I warmed up. By the end of my run, I was rolling up my sleeves and sweating pretty good.

Yeah I don’t bust out long sleeves until 50 degrees or less, depending on wind too. Honestly, short sleeves and gloves could get me through. Love Louisiana winter running.

35 or below is my magic number, and even then I end up rolling up the sleeves.

Here in the burbs south of Houston, we've been hitting 32-34 in the mornings the last couple of days. Since I can run during lunch time, I just keep on sleeping.
However, at that temperature, I'm rocking tights, long sleeves, and gloves.

Welp, just got word from a reliable source that La. events will be virtualized. How deflating, still holding out hope...

So no la marathon? Damn that will suck. I really hope that's not true.

Me too... hearing some rumblings on both sides. Hopefully they let us know soon if it’s off. I’ll be totally bummed out if true.
