Meanwhile, I’m ecstatic to be getting over 20 these days.
You’re doing awesome.

That’s what gives me anxiety. I mean a month ago you BQ, take a little break and now gotta build most of it back. Sucks.

Trying to maintain spring training pace in summer is irresponsible; effort not time baws.--->
Since this is my first summer this is something good to hear , especially from someone of your caliber. Mentally I feel like every run is moving me backwards and I'm losing all progress. All I can do is not skip a run, put in the effort, and run hard when I can.

I feel you man. I dread trying to go over 5k right now.
I'm glad to see you other studs still out there killing it though. Keep it up fellas. I'm trying to do a little bit to contribute to the yearly mileage goal, that's what keeps me running a little bit right now.

Anyone here run based on HR or is most everyone time based?
Posted on 6/25/19 at 8:25 am to TigeRoots
I'm trying to plan for my first race this fall in the baton rouge/new orleans area. I want to run a few 5k's and try and see If I can get multiple cracks at PR'n and trying to go under 21 and if so under 20.
How do you all find races and know which ones are good to enter.

@ SV Time/Feel/Miles or any combination thereof
@ CR running in the USA, then google the race and check results to see if the winning times are competitive and if the race is over 100 people.
Personally, our local race timing company has a website and I check it for races along with the local running stores.
I also compete in my city’s race series. Lots of larger areas have a race series.

Did some intervals today based on HR. Increased speed until I was at threshold and would then recover.

I incorporate a lot of HR-based runs

I do a little bit of both. For me it's frustrating to try to do HR based only at this time of the year, so like BRM said, I'll do a combo of both. The plan I'm following now is all pace based, but I will be using some caution due to the heat when trying to hit paces on speed days.

HR --> I give myself one run a week for time & HR to track my improvement..right now I try to cover as much ground as possible in 1:15:00 @ max 155 bpm.
I don't worry about pace and back off when I get out the zone.
Anecdotally, I set my half marathon PR , in same temp & humidity, with a max HR of 17 bpm lower than a race I had 7 weeks earlier after starting HR based training runs.
I feel HR runs were a main contributor to this.

You guys know any tricks to removing the stench out of one's watch and heart rate strap? Both smell like they've been strapped across a horse's a-hole. The smell actually transfers to everything they touch, including my skin. Tried washing with a soapy rag, scrubbing with a toothbrush dipped in baking soda, and soaking in vinegar/water mixture. Per the boss's order, they've been going straight in a bucket in the garage after using.

Okay, almost 2 weeks now since I started back up.
Hitting ~8:00-8:10 mile consistently now. Going to try to run longer for a bit, rather than continue improving the 1 mile time (I'm sure this will accomplish both, tho).
Got in 2 miles yesterday in just under 20 min. Took a couple short walking breaks in mile 2. Comin' along.

I have this same problem with my arm band that holds my phone. I haven’t found anything that works real well. Rinsing it off frequently works ok but after a run or two it smells again.

Watch I just shower with and it stays smelling fine. Never had a complaint n
Don’t wear the HR strap so I can’t speak to that.

So anyone think Walmsley can go sub 14 at WS100 this weekend?
Dude has put up serious numbers this last year.

I think so. Dude is a machine. These 45 mile training runs through the canyon are mind boggling. Saw he did 2 in the same week a couple weeks back.

Would be mind boggling. That dude is from another planet. WS is a dream race of mine.
