Are most on here developing their own diets, basing off internet searches or following a plan? Very interested in this.

I am on a modified version but essentially lower carbs and I've noticed a significant decrease in joint and back pains.

i can’t be that strict to maintain full ketosis so my diet avoids carbs and sugars if at all possible, eat lots of vegetables while limiting protein. I am not concerned at all with fat intake and trying to limit it.

I run about 10-12 Miles per week and do circuit training twice a week.

Was feeling really unhealthy and business travel, business meals were killing me with weight gain, and my annual physical wasn't looking good. A fellow poster, CAD703X, suggested trying the Keto plan, or similar.

So in April, I switched my diet, and started using Atkins bars. I gave up rice, potatoes, bread, chips, pasta, sauces, gravies, most fruits, cereals, fried foods, sugar, cookies and desserts.

I started eating lots of salads with fatty dressing, avocados, grilled or sauted green vegetables, cheeses, fish (especially salmon and mahi), low carb tortillas and meat. Steak, ribs, chicken, pulled pork, lamb chops, bacon, sausage, eggs and butter. I drink Irish whiskey occasionally, and even have a good beer or two once in a while. And wine. Don't skip on the wine with a nice dinner. Finally, gave been working out more and in front of the TV less.

Yes, I've lost weight. So far, almost 30 pounds. But I was worried that all that fat in my diet from the meat and butter was going to make my counts go off the charts. Wow, was I wrong.

Heart rate dropped 12 bpm.

Triglycerides fell from 167 to 79.

Total cholesterol dropped from 216 to 168.

HDL (good) cholesterol increased from 37 to 48.

LDL (bad) cholesterol decreased from 146 to 104.

VLDL cholesterol dropped from 33 to 16.

My doctor send me an email this morning (yes, on a Sunday morning) congratulating me on the excellent turnaround and said to stop taking my cholesterol medication and come back in three months to see if the diet is still working. He said I was the first patient he's had that turned around the numbers so quickly on what he thought would have been an unhealthy plan choice.

I'm now a big believer in this diet! I feel better, I can exercise more, my joints don't ache and I just feel better. The wife said I've also stopped snoring at night, too. Bonus!

Thanks CAD!

You are in the majority (noting that a small minority of people will not make improvement on that diet template)

Zoom out and you can quickly realize why we are nearing a "healthcare" catastrophe in the country...

Most folks would have been counseled to do everything opposite of what you have done (with more medication added to combat patient "noncompliance" with "modern" diet recommendations...)

Started from 226 lbs....am at 184 lbs. now. My goal is 180 lbs. I should add, my job is moderately physical....landscaping/property maintenance. If you don't have a job that requires some physicality, you're going to have to exercise.

I’ve got a major sweet tooth, but I was amazed at how little I missed sweets. One night I “treated” myself to a few cookies and really didn’t feel good. Didn’t really enjoy them and have no further cravings for junk. Who knew that life was worth living even without sugar.

guarantee you weren’t tracking your macros. There are a lot of hidden carbs in foods. If you actually tracked and logged your macros you would have been in ketosis.

I never could stay in ketosis and I did log my carbs. I think I didn’t eat enough fats. I don’t know. I did lose a few lbs and lean up, so I guess the diet did work for me, but according to the urine stick I was only intermittently in light ketosis.

6 wks ago I started a plan to drop weight to look better in pics for a trip the wife and I are taking w friends to Paris and Normandy that includes the Ryder Cup. Vanity is great motivation I guess. We leave in 3 weeks and I'm at 168 from a starting weight of 193.

I've never had a problem fasting down a pound a day using an insane regimen of 500 cal/day w riding a stationary bike 16 miles in an hour. The problem has been keeping it off. So I lost 23 lbs in 27 days, staying fully hydrated, then switched to a true keto diet.

I've been on the keto diet, not counting calories at all, for 2 weeks, and have lost an additional 2 lbs, eating bacon, steaks w fat, avocados, almonds, pork rinds, salads, and meat and cheese trays with red wine. I do not go hungry and snack a lot.

Start every morning w some butter coffee w MCT oil my wife prepares. Still park in front of Astros games on my bike for an hour doing 16 miles and 5 sets of 10 situps and pushups w no rest between.

At this time I have no plan to workout/body build, just want to maintain the weight that will allow me to wear the nice clothes my wife bought me for this trip. LOL

ETA- Oh, and I have been drinking 5 Michelob Ultras per round of golf the last 2 weeks too

And again you too are probably cannibalizing your own muscles. Jesus...

ETA: Not to mention that such a caloric deficit can destroy your bone density among many other health issues.

I always did on my previous "diets"

But this time, instead of the Progresso soup I would have for dinner, I did a chicken breast and a half w mustard

Didn't get the headaches and usual signs of muscle breakdown I have always had. No loose bowels, but probably had only 6 movements in those 27 days. LOL

It's not for everybody, but I needed it quick.

This keto thing however, could be a lifestyle change.

You still had muscle breakdown. If you would have gotten a DEXA scan before and after you would have seen that you lost muscle and potentially bone density.

You aren't the exception to the rules. Sorry. 500 calories is insane to begin with not counting the deficit you created on the bike.
