I'm not a fan of keto. I gave it a shot, but I've found that it's hard to beat a balanced diet. I couldn't concentrate while I was doing keto and didn't like what it did to my muscles. I've had more success with cutting out alcohol, quit eating after 7 pm, and just reduced total caloric intake. Good cardio is obviously key as well. I enjoy kickboxing, running, and the stairmaster (helps stay in skiing-shape). I dropped from 225 lbs to 185 lbs (8.5 % bf) in about 6 months.

My wife and I both quit alcohol completely for 100 straight days. Didn't drop an ounce.

Etoufee shouldn't have carbs outside of the vegetables ? Unless you're one of those cretans who makes etoufee with roux.

I am not a keto fan either but if you take enough protein then your muscles should be fine even if you are in a caloric deficit.

People go keto and forget their body needs certain nutrients to function still.

Is it true that the Keto diet only works if you tell everyone you're on it?

Are you nuts? One cup of rice with that sauce has 45 carbs!

I have a similar story.

During the holiday season around the new year I was at my heaviest: 245.

By May I had managed to eat better enough to get down to 232, but I seemed to hit a wall. At this time my wife took a job in NYC that has her out of town during the week and home on the weekends so I decided to try modifying the South Beach diet we had tried (and got good results with) a year ago. For me though, the problem was finding things I really wanted to eat (as opposed to "have to eat") in order to stay on the diet.

I stumbled upon something that worked for me not long after, I recently found out I was actually doing the Keto diet all along but did not know it.

One good thing about me is that if I like something I can eat it every day for a month with no issues.

Here's my weekday diet:
6:30-7am(ish) - Breakfast consists of two eggs (sometimes three) sunnyside up and coffee with Splenda and sugar-free creamer.

10am(ish) - A mid-morning snack: one fat-free Frigo Cheese Heads cheese stick.

11:30am(ish) - Lunch is a diet A&W Root Beer along with a Healthy Choice Simply Steamers meal (usually the Three Cheese Tortellini to feed my Italian DNA ;) ).

2pm(ish) - A mid-afternoon snack: one small bag of Planters NUT-rition mixed nuts.

6pm(ish) - A couple of hamburger patties (I usually grill these up over the weekend. I treat them more as an evening snack than an actual meal).

This is with sitting at my desk job most of the day then being on the computer most of every week night before bed (ie: a VERY sedentary lifestyle).

After a quick loss of weight the first week I saw a more gradual decrease of around a pound every couple of days. I also drink around 2-3 bottles of water each day (at least one with each snack to help fill me up)

On the weekends I cheat somewhat (the extent varies) and although it slows my overall weight loss down, the diet itself has helped curb how much I need to eat before feeling full to the point where a good meal around 1pm or so may do me for the rest of the day.

When I started this in May I was 232, today I am bouncing around 214-215. My immediate goal was 219 (how much I weighed when my wife and I got married 4 years ago), my intermediate goal is 210 and my long-term goal is sub-200.

Keto didn’t work for me. Not sure why but I could never achieve ketosis. Probably didn’t eat enough fat bc my carb intake was around 15g per day. Plus I hated the limited diet. I didn’t miss junk food, but I missed things like bananas and peas. So I’m just on a general low carb diet, maybe about 50g per day. Lots of vegetables and meat. And I feel great.

Plus I want to gain some muscle and I don’t think keto is great for that.

Switching from rice to cauliflower-rice, cutting out all sweets, and drinking a gallon of water daily has probably made all the difference.

That's my issue. I can largely give up the fried foods and bread, the sugary sodas, the beer, etc, but the rice and gravy, bananas, and sweet peas are pretty tough to eliminate.

I'm probably going to try out the cauliflower rice soon. I really want to try the cauliflower pizza crust at LIT.

I guarantee you weren’t tracking your macros. There are a lot of hidden carbs in foods. If you actually tracked and logged your macros you would have been in ketosis.

I’m right there with you. Keto has changed my life.

I started Nov. 1st last year at 275 and was below 200 by March 15th.

My weight loss has slowed a lot since mostly due to relaxing a little bit after hitting 200. But I’m 188 now and going strong.

Keto is not a fad diet everyone I know that can stick to it for over month loses weight dramatically.

I jumped on paleo about three years ago because my job requires a yearly physical, Doctor said I was headed to blood pressure meds among other possible problems. Started at 277 and I've been at 195 for over a year. All my numbers are perfect, Said keep doing what you are doing. Not as strict as I was in the first 2 years, but I run one to three times a week and circuit train once a week for 45 minutes. Restrict the carbs in your diet and you will see improvement in your health.

Good for you OP, whatever works for someone is great.

It’s really not about what you eat as much as what you don’t eat. The real purpose of a diet should be to make you realize how much crap you eat. If you can live without fruits and vegetables that’s great, but it’s realistic for most.

I always think it’s kinda goofy for someone to say to their strict diet worked because they cut out processed food, fast food, beer, sweets, and bread. Not sure anyone has ever said those are good for you.

I'm 6'4" . A personal trainer at a gym I occasionally frequent did a 5 point caliper measurement. I didn't know him, so he had no reason to embellish. I'm not on any gear. My total testosterone is actually only ~350 ng/mL. I lifted weights ~5x / week and did cardio ~6x / week. My resting pulse came down to 57 bpm, so I was hitting it pretty hard.

Your body probably cannibalized your muscles at some point dropping that much that fast.
