Another one is when people will have like a whole workout routine on a for a cable machine or something, and will do the whole thing and keep the machine occupied for like 15-20 minutes. If it is 5am and an empty public gym, go for it. If it is 5:30 pm right after work and it is packed, don't be a-hole. This is one I see is more common with the lady folk, especially in their 40's & 50's.

I despise the 135lb deadlift grunt and drop as much as anyone, you look ridiculous. If it's a monster, it doesn't bother me at all. No matter the fitness level, I am extremely triggered by the weight drop on cable machines or the attachment drop. shite pisses me off so bad.

Ugh the stack drop gets my BP up immediately.

Yeah, if you are dropping stacks on a cable machine, you're just a douche looking for attention
That's far different than someone dropping the bar on a deadlift with bumper plates

Ronnie trained at a sweat box with about one other human in the building and it was usually the owner. Ronnie could do whatever he wanted since it was about as polar opposite from a commercial gym as you could get. You could literally watch the rust form on the plates. If you train at a gym like this, go ahead and grunt like a harpooned seal and drop all the weights you want. If you train at a gym with normal people and I’m speaking as a meathead powerlifter, please act civilized.

throwing/dropping heavy dumbbells is standard operating procedure when you are dealing with big ones.
fricking this. If im straining with all my might to go to failure benching 100+ lb dumbells, and they're the rubber ones which are made to be dropped, you better believe theyre coming down fast. I'm not going to "throw" them but they're definitely going to make a thump coming down. Everyone can get the frick over a loud "thump" for a milli-second. I can't stand trying to do the whole "swing them down to your legs while you sit up" move and im not going to injure myself trying to perfect it.
There are way more annoying things in the gym than a loud weight coming down. Like people trying to do a tri-set on 3 different things in a packed gym. If it's 5pm on a monday you need to alter your workout to not need so many benches/machines/dumbells at once. It's selfish

And when you do this, I'm looking over at you at laughing at how weak you are.
No dumbbells are "made to be dropped". They are protected so when dumbasses do drop them, they don't break stuff constantly. But they still break stuff. Cause you're not supposed to drop them.
Again, if you can't handle the weight to the point where you have to throw them to the ground for fear of getting hurt, the weights are too heavy for you and you need to step down to 70's or 80's or something. Leave the bigger weights to the big boys that can actually handle them.

I'm with you on this. I've seen numerous rubber dumbbells with bent handles because people drop them from height.
Also, I always felt more likely to be injured setting them down at the sides rather than bringing them to my chest, bringing my knees up and sitting up. That is so easy to do and I'm an old, fat arse.

Yeah, I worked out with 2 Olympians. They guided the weights down much more than these clowns that throw them down for attention.
If you can lift it, you can guide it down

Yes, tendonitis.

It's the younger crowd and their lack of re racking the weights.
And then trying to workout shirtless weighing 135lbs at 5ft 6"

All the women, or their trainers, that drag bumper plates far away from the platform for the shorties to stand on, and them leave them there. So I just use iron plates on the platforms now.
A gym with a chalk bowl that never has any chalk in it.

i lift in my garage for the most part along with my sons....i want them mother frickers getting fired up and slamming weights. I want them pissed when they miss a lift. its the one place they are allowed to curse, so long as their mom isnt watching and they are allowed to call each other pussies, mother frickers, bitch boy etc.
i dont want a stale environment. i want old school, heavy metal or old school rap blasting moving heavy arse slag iron, jump high/far and running fast.
my favorite sessions are when the boys get mad at each other and an impromptu competition breaks out.

When I lift to failure with free weights, there’s no more energy to slowly place the weights back down.
I’m not “throwing them” but they’re getting dropped

People that drop weights drop them every set because they want people to look at them.
A) You shouldn't train to failure every set, not even close
B) Get a spotter if you want to train to failure and can't handle it - though you should still be able to lower the weight like a reasonable human being even if you did go to failure.
Honestly this really isn't even an argument, you shouldn't drop weights in a public gym. If you're working out in a hardcore iron garage and everybody is on board with it, sure. Otherwise, don't do it. Period. Deadlifting is the one exception.
Outside of it just being generally douchey, I have seen people get hurt from it. Bounces weird, lands on someone's foot, trips someone walking by. Nobody is expecting you to throw a dumbbell in the gym.

If it's your gym and your weights and equipment they're breaking and for some reason that's how you want them to act that's fine.
Just make sure it doesn't make the commute to a public gym with them.
I like to piss in my back yard. But when company is over, or when I'm at work, I use a restroom like a civilized person. Cause that's how you act in public.

Again man, if that's how you/they wanna act, that's fine, find a place that does it. Don't go to church and try to start a mosh pit during 'It is well with my soul'.
Act appropriately for the situation you're in.
I guess I'm a pussy and work out in a pussy gym and I don't lift for real; but I don't want pussies that aren't strong enough to place their weights down reasonably next to me and throwing dumbbells around while I'm lifting and not expecting it.

na I agree with that. dont break the equipment but also dont injury yourself or not push yourself out of fear of making noise either.
