Help losing belly fat
As I near my 40th year I look down and realize that my relatively lean and athletic physique has one major flaw, belly fat. I used to play lacrosse so I'm not opposed t taking up jogging again but I want some other ideas besides "run 2 miles a day and eat almonds"

Keto.

Diet is where you lose fat.

In addition to lifting, maybe add some sprints and a little intermittent fasting. Or play some lacrosse.

It's OK to be fat. You are 40. Quit buying into the MTV and Instagram lies.

Two minute plank every night. Go up from there if you can

My visceral fat (very dangerous) melted away in no time on lazy keto/low carb. And I still drink beer. I run and swim and am active which contributes to fairly defined and fat-free abs, but it's mostly diet.

I lost 12 pounds in 3 weeks on Keto. I just redid bloodwork from 2 1/2 months ago and all of my numbers are better as well.

I just read that article. I'm pretty novice on the workout/ diet regimen and that was good information. Might explain why I've had a difficult time losing weight despite riding road bicycle 100 miles a week at times. I've started weight lifting a few times a week. Hopefully a couple more weeks and I'll see results.

Cannot target fat areas. Anyone telling you otherwise is full of it. Consume less calories than you burn and you'll lose fat.

Diet is the answer. Experiment and find one that works for you. You can run until the cows come home but it won't work if the diet isn't clean

re: Help losing belly fat
Actually you can but only to a certain extent and it's not worth the time and effort anyways. But you do it with targeted exercise to cause blood flow to an area and then do some form of exercise. So like doing crunches then sprints can cause a small amount of targeted fatloss but only if the fatty deposits are there due to bad blood flow to the area.all while in a deficit. It's why boxers have leaner arms than the rest of their body, sprinters tend to have leaner legs than the rest of the body etc.

Like I said it's complicated and the effects are small and not worth it.

OP these specialized diets everyone is saying to do are the same way. Sure if, keto and other diets due cause a small thermogenic effect but it's so small it's not even worth it. I love both keto and if and it's because I prefer to eat that away and it's what I can stick too but they are not any better for fatloss overall than any other diet that puts you in a deficit.

Find a diet you can stick to while making sure you get enough protein to maintain lean tissue. It's really that simple.

I smell hormonal issues here as well. OP should parallel path diet and hormone panel. Need T, Free T, and SHBG

I don't agree with this at all based off my specific experience. My body handles different macros entirely differently. I tried losing weight by just tracking calories and staying under a certain number. I lost weight, but not at near the rate compared to when I did Keto over the summer. So with nothing but my own (and my wife's (no pics ) ) Experience to go off of, I say macros are important to weight loss.

Empirical scientific evidence shows that in healthy individuals, if protein intake and calories are equated, there is virtually no difference in fat loss rates between low carb or high carb diets. If healthy, your extra rate of fat loss could be explained by better adherance

That said, there are various reasons that this could be change in people with hormonal imbalances, pre-diabetes, insulin sensitivity, etc. if the keto diet helps rectify some health issues.

I haven't reached and probably won't reach a conclusion re the actual keto effect re weight (apart from water retention) and fat loss. But for me a high fat low carb way of eating (it isn't a "diet" -- it's just how I doos it, Larry) leaves me satiated and not craving more food.

For instance, I can snack and it's a few pork rinds dipped in French onion dip and not a whole tube of Pringles.

I think ultimately it is mostly CICO, and for me high fat = fewer calories to be full and not want to graze.

Weed and beer could theoretically add a layer of challenge if I did that sort of thing.

Alcohol is a large boulder blocking the narrow pathway to fat loss.

re: Help losing belly fat
Nutrition is 70-80% of the results. Keto seems to have the greatest effect on fat loss. Intermittent fasting also. There is no way to target fat loss. Having said that the belly area is like the deep end of the pool, last to drain and first to fill.
