Gym Etiquette: gym bags

Since when did it become a thing to bring in a bag full of things to the gym with you and leave it where every one is lifting? What is so important in your bag of things that you can’t leave it in the locker room?

Subtle “my gym has a locker room” brag

Wonder this myself sometimes. Why tf is your big arse obnoxious gym bag in the middle of the free weight area? Is it the equivalent of an old man putting a towel over the head of a bench to "mark his territory?"
They make for a fun hurdle when I'm carrying heavy arse dumbbells.

They should have benches, lockers, or cubbies. Don’t bring your gym bag to the floor for a number of reasons.

Same shite as people bringing tripods and cameras and shite. I'm sick of it.

Can I derail this thread and ask why everyone sets up a tripod in the middle of rush hour?

Well, I've always thought that you can have a bag in the gym area:
1. If there are cubbies/shelves - use that and work out of the bag there, or
2. Stationary up against the wall, as far out of the way as possible or, failing that, with you, right next to you at your current station and move with you
Leaving a bag all out in the open is begging for someone to trip or say something about it, either of which is the bag owner's fault.
I get it, some folks bring their own towel, pre/post shakes, water, notebook, etc., and that can add up. What is poor etiquette is letting any of your shite get in other people's way. That goes for life, not just in the gym, too.

If you aren't walking around with a gallon of water does are you even working out?

One valid excuse is you are bringing in a reasonable number of workout props that the gym doesn't have. In that case, I'll allow a gym bag on the floor.

I bring my gym bag and it’s a bit big. I leave it against the wall tho. If I need something I just go over to it and get it out.
ETA: I bring my own bands, parallettes, rings, all sorts of stuff

My gym is always missing random shite, like hooks or clamps or even the damn rope. I have my weight belt in the bag along with my deadlift/squat shoes. One thing I DO NOT do tho is place it in someone’s way. It’s always directly next to my bench or in a corner. Most people actually borrow my stuff too bc they know that if the gym is missing it, then I prob have it. I’m a resource

Ugh I can’t wait till we start building ur new house in the next few years and I can’t finally have my own gym.
I am so glad I am not alone in this. There’s a father and son at my gym and I run into them on fridays when I workout at lunch. It never fails they bring their gym bags in and drop them in the walkway.

I have a garage gym but I plan on going to a regular gym for the summer months. It gets brutal sometimes.
My buddy trains at the Paramount gym on Enterprise not far from WOCO. Went check it out. Supper small but really nice and has everything. $45 a month.
