Its actually the HGH not the anabolics that do it.

Who is Dorian Yates? And why should I care?
Posted on 10/1/18 at 7:14 am to prplhze2000
What do these guys expect after years of abusing their bodies with steroids, HGH, lifting insane amounts of weight, yoyo dieting for comps, etc.
Sooner or later all that shite has to hit back, and those early life choices have left many people crippled as they age.

I watched this....
Ronnie is in terrible shape.....can barely walk these days.

The guts are a combination of hgh, insulin abuse and large amounts of food. I'm pretty sure Lee Haney retired because of the 'chemical warfare' that Dorian and others were willing to undergo and he didn't want to go there. Can't say that I blame him.

It's sad but true. Ronnie lifted WAY heavier than other competitive bodybuilders and it finally took it's toll.
quote:
"So you guy's still wanna be like me, you still want to have the same work ethic is I had. Well as you can see I'm 8 X Mr Olympia and I can't walk. I endured an 11 hour major back surgery last Tuesday. Do I have any regrets?, if I had a chance to do it all over again would I change anything? Yes if I had a chance to do it all over again I would change one thing. That is when I squatted that 800lbs I would do 4 reps instead of 2, that is my only regret in my career. Those 2 reps I did still haunts me today because I know I had 4 in me but the coward in me only did 2. That is my only regret."
I've unfortunately had to change my lifting habits in the last year or so due to various injuries. It sucks
Seeing what has happened to Ronnie puts it into perspective better

you can lift heavy and use steroids and be fine and not have the problems. But if you abuse your body with either you will have problems. Staying on cycle for years is going to take its toll.
Living on pain meds so you cna train throught he pain is going to have issues.
Ronnie and Dorian aren't the exception for this. If you take anything to the extreme and not listen to your body you are asking for problems.

Just realized I'm stronger than Yates. Never thought I'd say that.

Yep. This is a bad idea for several reasons.
Tom Prince comes to mind here. After having kidney failure during a show, he disclosed that he was downing an entire bottle of Advil every single day to get through pain.
To your original point, I have had to adjust my training and do more rehab/ prehab movements, but I will not stop lifting

And Coleman said he’s only regret is not getting 1 more rep on that 800# squat!

Your muscles, joints and connective tissues all come with max load ability. PED's enhance muscular strength, but don't have the same effect on joints and connective tissue strength.
That's a reason PED abuse has adverse long term consequences. Your muscles can do work your bone and connective tissues might not be able to handle.
The number of bodybuilders who combine base PED's with more risky stuff is high too. Insulin, recreational drugs, painkillers, those are bad combos and don't sustain longevity.
I would love to see a trial study on lower dose PED usage under doctor supervision. Strip out the uneducated abusers and see what it really does. It will never happen because the push is prohibition. I just don't understand the fear of a science based approach to legislation.

No one ever accused him of not being brain dead.
And I disagree with him being the greatest of all time.
First, the Weider's fix everything. I mean think about it, when is a champ actually beat? They win a bunch in a row and then walk away or retire. Doesn't happen in any sport. These are pageants that are rigged.
Second, the whole bubble gut look is not bodybuilding. Its blowing themselves up with juice or whatever the PED of the day is, aesthetics be damned. Started with Dorian Yates and went downhill from there.
