That's awesome man. I've actually never done Diane so I have no clue how this will go lol. If I get back to the 15 deads at 315, I'll be pumped

as much as crossfit claims, the open isn't really for the recreational crossfitters like us. It's to find who are the best in the world to move on in a competition.
This is the problem.

I get your view point, but TBH, as much as crossfit claims, the open isn't really for the recreational crossfitters like us.

It used to be though. With time it has gotten more outrageous. For people that can do HSPU, this one is going to have a lot of casualties once they get to 315lb deadlifts

I was diagnosed the flu yesterday. A walk to the mailbox was all I could handle today

I have never done Diane. I should do OK on it.
I'm not great at DL but I do OK on HSPU.
I have never done 315 lbs on DL before so not sure if I can manage that or not.
I can do HS walks pretty decent but I'm not sure I will get to them.

I did Dianne back in early November at 5:48. So I know where I should fall but yes, those 315# DL are going to feel like a wrecking ball. I’ll be estatic if I can stumble my way through handstand walks.

Since we are basically the same on everything else, this is about my goal as well!

Did y'all watch the measuring process for the push ups? Looks like narrow stance and heels up are required to get over that line.

Yeah, guy at my gym said the people seemed to hit this standard a little easier than last years.

I do my HSPU pretty narrow and close to the wall anyway, I usually don't have a huge problem with the standard.

So far, the most reps completed were 115Rx.

She completed 20’ of the first round of HS walks.

Pro tip: Pull your toes toward your shins at the top of the HSPU to help get your heels over the line.

No reason to even attempt RX IMO

If you're looking to get your best score possible, 1 RX rep > an entire scaled WOD in the Open. Best advice is to do as much Rx as possible to submit then do scaled.

eta

I was pretty butthurt about 18.3 and not being able to do the scaled version to submit, but I can't really do 18.4 scaled either...it is what it is.

My only real complaint about 18.4 is the very real possibility of injury for this WOD. High-rep deadlifts are notorious for back injuries, then throw in pre-exhausting yourself on Diane, then doing even heavier Diane is just terrible. It's the kind of workout that most of the fitness community looks at and cringes. I thought the heavy clean on 18.2 was bad, but this is even worse for injury potential.

I will treat the 315 dead lifts as slow singles, as if I was working percentages/strength. My 1RM is 395. I may not even be able to get 1 up @ 315, let alone get to the walks. That's okay with me. As previously mentioned the 315 DL is going to be a huge separator. Every one you get, I think will do a good amount for pushing you up the board (if you're into that).
The tie break is based on the last set of completed DL's, so I'm trying to get done with the last set of 225's as quick as possible.

I got 104 Rx w/ tiebreak of 4:47. I finished Diane in 5:27 which was a Pr for me. The 315 DL hit just as hard as I thought.

I would have liked to have a done a little better but the open is starting to wear me down. It’s taking me a full week to recover from wod’s.

That's solid man. I'm going to do the wod tonight after work. I'll post once I do it.

I was just hoping to get to the 315lb DL as this was my first time doing Diane. I ended up with 89RX because I collapsed on my 8th HSPU for a no-rep. I wanted that last rep bad but just didn't happen.

My last DL max was in November and it was 315lbs so I know I wouldn't have made the handstand walks even if I could have completed Diane.

I do not mess around with HPSu. I dropped down a little hard one time and got a shock. I’ll be ok not doing en.

Plus it would take me 10 minutes to do 21

I think I would put the ab mat down, but no reason for me to even try them.

HSPUs are right in my wheelhouse.

I can pump out close to 30 strict, but I’ve been working on kipping more recently to help with HSPU workouts.

I’ll probably go:

11-10 DL
21 HSPUs
8-7 DL
10-5 HSPUs
9 DL
9 HSPUs
