My friend who does the nutrion coaching for games athletes posted a good approach to it
treat the first 12-15 rounds as an emom to set a steady pace.

Damn. That is actually something I can do

Yeah if I was doing it again I'd shoot for 1:15 a round and throw down in the end if I could. I thought I was going to get crushed so I never paid attention to the clock and just never really got gassed until the last 3 in a row of unbroken and jogging to stations. Would have helped going this afternoon with more energy and a bit more competition.

Nick Urankar posted a video on IG discussing the same idea.
He said, to help someone pace, place your rope and DBs apart from the rig to allow yourself 5-10 secs between each movement to allow for a small recovery.

I am still battling my shoulder but I think this was one I could at least fight through.
Numbers are way down for this open:

CrossFit HQ released the numbers, which show a dramatic decline in registrations, compared to the 2019 CrossFit Open. For the previous season, 358,646 people registered for the event. However this year, only 239,106 people have decided to take part. This is a notable decline of 119,540 athletes from the last year.

Crossfit open is dying Aside from a minority of crossfit members no one cares
Hell if it weren’t for this board I would’ve never know. The Open started
The only value is the fact that we all are doing the same workout and can discuss

We have had a group competition every year but this year one of the guys that has always been a group captain said one a year is enough. He planned on going deer hunting. I have only seen a handful of people doing the open workout while being judged by a coach.

I think it's a matter of crossfit fatigue with all of the sanctioned events & the fact that this is the 2nd Open this year. I think they should've just done the next Open next October.
That and the $20 fee. It all adds up to most people feeling like "I just want to work out"

I tweaked my calf working on DUs today.
I tore my left calf (6 years ago) and had left ankle surgery 4 years ago and it’s been sore these last 6-8 weeks from flag football and CrossFit.
I worked up to a set of 18 and was trying for more when I felt a twinge right where I tore the calf. shite has been knotted up since.

I came out way to hot and didn’t use the EMOM strategy
My first six were done in 5:30 I was flying

We had a guy go 18+5 Rx this afternoon.
He was 6 rounds in 6 minutes and then settled in to a 1:10 pace.

That plus people had aspirations of going to regionals and compete against the elite. Now that can’t happen.

I agree. I’m not feeling it this year. I didn’t do 20.1 and got 4 dubs shy of 17 this year. That was a boring fricking workout.

Knee is so bad right now I didn’t sign up. Dubs are especially painful.
Doing it as an emom is a good strategy but 20 mins is a long time. We had a couple of guys who got 23+ and a couple at 22+ rounds. Unbroken reps. Crazy.

I won’t sniff being able to do it as an emom.

With my left calf all fricked up (I either tore it again or tore some scar tissue) I just did 3Rx in 20.2 with a bunch of single DUs.
I probably could have pushed 7 rounds doing it this way, but there was no reason for me to do any more.
