What's between your 3 wood and 4i?

Saw a lot of the guys this weekend using 3 and 5 wood. I'm thinking about switching to a 5 wood from hybrid since I hit my 3-wood pretty well. What's your thought process for that gapping?

3w: 15* (230-235)
3H: 19* (220-225)
4i: 22* (210-215)

I'm pretty sure 5w and 3h are generally around the same loft, so it's all preference. I like the hybrid because I swing it a little differently than the wood, and usually I can have one working in case the other isn't. In my mind, if my 3w is shite, a 5w probably would be too.

All depends what your lofts are. I am:
3w - 15 degrees
3h - 18.5 degrees
5i - 21.5 degrees

For some reason, I get better results with fairway woods.

I carry 15, 21, and 24 degree fairway woods.

Don’t carry a 3 wood, but have a strong 5. The 3 hybrid is the weakest club in my bag and I’m seriously toying with the idea of a 7 wood set up just like my 5.

I just picked up 2 utility irons - Titleist 510 - to fill exactly the gap you are talking about. Replaced my 19* HY and my 3i. Easy to hit and hit high. Give these a look along with whatever woods and hybrids you are considering.

2 iron and 3 iron

I’ve played a 2i for 20+ years and despite trying a bunch of utilities/hybrids and FW’s over the years, always fall back on the control I have with my 2i.

No 3 or 4 iron in the bag. If I can’t swing my 5 long enough it’s the 3 wood. I could never hit the 3 or 4 iron worth a shite.

I love my 3h. I play it anywhere from 210-230. Would rather take a soft swing with it than pull out the four and can keep it a little more straight than the 3.

A standard 5 wood and 3H are generally around 19 degrees, so it’s all preference.

I can take the 3 hybrid and not even think about it and flush it, can’t do it with a fairway wood as much. Hybrids are also way more useful out of the rough.

For me, I carry a 3 wood, but I don’t carry a 4 iron.

I carry 3(15),5(21),7(24)woods. Start irons at 5.

I’m not a big hitter so I use 5 wood and 7 wood several times per round.

I can hit the 5 wood within 5-10 yards of what a consistent 3 wood would go yet much higher and controlled. I may carry a 4 driving iron or 13 degree three wood on various courses.

I'm old so I have a 13 degree 3+ Callaway Mavrik and carry a 2 Hybird 16 degrees and also have a 20 degree 3H I carry at times.

Of course now that I'm 60 and can play the senior tees I may have to rethink some of the bag.
