He’s a choker for sure. Still very good at golf but does have trouble finishing.

I think “choker” is a little harsh. Dude has over $40M in career earnings. I wouldn’t call that choking.
That said, he sure as hell struggles trying to close it out. But I think it’s a matter of time till he wins a big one. Hell , Sheffler was struggling till this weekend.

He was and still is #1 in the FedEx points by a wide margin for 2026. He has 11 top 5 finishes this year. He is also #1 in strokes gained total and will probably win player of the year.
Such struggle.

Sam is by far not a choker. I think a non-closer/finisher is probably more accurate.

Sam is going to get one. He keeps popping up and eventually things go your way.
I do think he needs to work on being more aggressive. He plays very conservative on Sundays IMO.

Said this about 8 weeks ago during a major and got downvoted to hell. Dude is a generational choker and the only reason why he gets any clout here is the LSU connection. He's probably never going to win a major. For the record, I don't think Ludvig is ever going to win one either. He has similar closing problems.

The full context of that 67 is important. He was quite a bit behind (meaning no pressure). He came out firing and as soon as it was his tournament to lose, he started stagnating and backpedaling.
He simply becomes a different player when he gets tied for/takes a major lead. He goes from Top 10 level player to maybe a Top 1000 level player within the span of 1-2 holes.

I could be a 15 time major winner or a 30 handicap and it changes nothing.
Sam currently chokes a lot. He is a choker right now. I love the guy and hope he finds a way to break out of it

Sam failed to overtake the best player in the world who had a 2 shot 54 hole lead on him.
Also, the guy has won several golf tournaments, and put himself in position to contend a few times this year. Failing to win doesn’t mean he’s a choker…he’s just not Tiger or Scottie who seem t get it done almost every time they are in that spot.
