He hasn’t won in over 5 years and he is as talented as anyone
His scoring average this season on Sundays is almost a full 2 shots worse when he is in contention vs when he is not
I mean what do you call it when you play worse when you have a chance to win?
I root for Burns as hard as anyone I promise….But it doesn’t mean you dislike him just to stay he is going through choking problems right now.

I guess I define choking as doing something exceptionally bad or missing an easy shot you would otherwise make. Choking is van de velde at carnoustie, Norman at Augusta, that kind of stuff. Sam was right there with a putt on 18 in both the US open and Open championship. He didn’t choke in either…and those stakes are higher than anything you or me have ever faced. Yesterday he played like shite but he’s been off for 3 weeks and he was only in that spot because he played one round out of his mind. The Saturday round was the outlier and I think anyone who knows golf realizes that. I don’t know how someone who follows the sport doesn’t see that

$1,160,000.
I need to learn to choke better.

Low scores are great, but you and I know the only low score you want is on Sunday to finish in first. Hard to back up 62 on Saturday and trying to catch the number one golfer in the world and paired together. He’s had the best year for a non winner no doubt.

Failing to win doesn’t mean he’s a choker…he’s just not Tiger or Scottie who seem t get it done almost every time they are in that spot.
This. When I think of a choker, Greg Norman pops into my brain. Greg should have never lost to Faldo at the Masters. I guess Sam could wear the label since a lot of people on here are already crowning him with it and maybe he will if this keeps happening but yesterday was not a choke job. He got beat by the best player in the world.

Wouldn't call him a choker. Don't recall him blowing any massive leads per say.
He just can't put it together and go low when he's in contention. Really great player, love his natural "baw" move and love watching him putt.
Some guys just have "it", and some "don't". Most "dont". The dude has still has a pretty damn solid career and has a lot of runway left.

Sam is by far not a choker. I think a non-closer/finisher is probably more accurate.
Sam Burns is far from a choker. He’ll get over the hump soon enough and win multiple majors in his career. Nick Faldo had the same moniker on him early in his career and went on to win 6 majors !
Sam certainly could have played better yesterday, but when Scheffler is on his game with a lead, he is almost impossible to beat. Sam acknowledged as much yesterday.

Sam had the 2nd worse round out of the entire top 30. I mean he put himself out of the race three holes in. It's not like he was chasing Scottie down putting any pressure on him.
Sam overall had a great year and especially in the majors, but it's safe to say that Sunday is not Sam's best day.

Golf is very random, even for the best players.
It takes talent, hard work to develop skills, and some luck to win a golf tournament.
I think Sam will get a major soon.
But if he doesn’t, he will be OK.

It may be about time to switch coaches to a more mental game coach. He can’t seem to play his pressure shots correctly. Leaving most shots left that should cut. Everyone handles nerves different no matter how much money you have or how many tournaments you have won. It’s very hard to overcome them so you need to learn to play within it. I don’t think most here can say it’s choking being a good majority of you never hit a meaningful golf shot in your life. Will be interesting to see his off season changes. He has IT.

Must have been 70 more chokers out there because nobody else did either...
Sam lost one spot on the leaderboard and could have shot -5 last Sunday and still lost...
To put things into perspective Sam and Scottie are the same age and been on the tour about the same time.
Scottie 21 wins and $116,000,000 winnings, OWGR #1
Sam 5 wins and $43,000,000 winnings, OWGR #7
I want Sam to win more as much as anyone but I have a hard time labelling him as choker with these numbers.

Sam is just really struggline with his putter lately. It was horrible today and most of yesterday's round. Great stroke, but something is wrong.....green reading maybe?? He'll get it straightened out eventually.
Also has to toss his rescue club.....he can't hit it in play when laying up on short par 4 holes.....too many bogeys on birdie holes.
