Difficulty setting preferences on games

Met a guy who immediately sets the difficulty of every game to the highest difficulty possible at the start of play. Be it a 1st person shooter, fighting game, racing, etc.
Was wondering how many others do this? lol
Or do you play normal, then maybe a different difficulty upon second play through? Or start off on easy?

Typically second highest or highest.

If I have time to play, I’ll go highest.
If I’m just playing for story, I go with normal.

Depends how familiar I am with the genre and how much time I want to spend with the game.

If it’s a story driven game I just set it to the easiest now and just run through it. Ain’t got time for deaths and shite.

Depends how the difficulty setting works. If higher difficulties make the AI better, I’ll do that. If it just makes them bullet sponges, I stick to normal.

I usually go with normal. I'll only use easy if I'm just in it for achievements or my 5 year old will be doing most of the game play.
Hardly ever use the hardest difficulty. Just don't see the point.

I barely have enough time for the gaming I want, so I set it to easy and roll.

There is only one difficulty to play, the hardest.

Easy and blow through.
I bought dark souls 3 last week because it was cheap and so highly rated. frickkkkk that shite.
Eta: I hate hard games and pvp in general becuase I might average 2 hours a week max. I ain't getting my arse kicked by a bunch of children playing 60+ a week.

And to expound on what I mean, being so few games do it well, I'll give an example: An easy way for a shooter to properly scale difficulty is by increasing the aggression of the AI. It doesn't matter that the number of NPCs vastly overwhelm the PCC if they all sit behind cover and come forward one at a time. But that numbers superiority becomes a hell of a bitch if a couple sit back and lay down fire while the bulk of them rush your flanks.
In short, if increasing difficulty increases immersion (by making the game feel more realistic), I'll do it. If increasing difficulty means I have to shoot some unarmored grunt 20 times before they drop, I'll constantly be reminded that I'm playing a (poorly coded) game, so I would rather just keep the slider down.

Normal.
On Ace Combat 7 I played on normal and beat the game. Then I wanted to play through it again to get the Ace skins so I played on hard the second time around. Then it unlocked the Ace difficulty so I just recently got around to beating it on Ace to get the medal for beating the campaign in less than 4 hours. So now I’m going to play on easy for the achievement for beating the game on every difficulty.

For long story games, I usually do the Hardest setting

Depends on the game. If it's a game like one of the original god of war games where there's a moveset and you don't have to use 75% of the abilities because the game is too easy, I'll crank it up to the higher settings.
Metal gear solid? frick that. Just give me story.

Depends on the game or series, but I typically just choose normal. Some action and strategy games, I go for a harder difficulty. I tend to avoid hard on RPGs because all it does is make fights longer, not harder.

Bioshock Infinite and Mass Effect 2 are two games that immediately Co to mind. The AI difference between normal and hard is like playing a different game.

I play enough difficult games without sliders so when given the option I usually pick normal.
However I have been playing Faster Than Light. I play that on easy. Finally beat the boss ship yesterday.
