No.
Besides the girls dressed like whores, nothing is attractive about the place to go drinking at

Southdowns, although at times pricey and yes gritty, is one of last true great bar scenes in Baton Rouge. It's not riddled with annoying drunk youngsters, and it really hasn't bitten the corporate strip mall type bar/chain restaurant trend that has hit downtown and other places. It's the last true feel of bars with flavor. They are the places that haven't been soiled by shitty themes and gimmicks. They are simply bars that have "IT" per se...If it was up to Wank Off's INC, every bar in BR would be some shitty chain bar with sluts in outfits serving overpriced drinks...Say what you will about Ivars and Pat, but I would rather spend my dying days paying overpriced drinks from a dirty tap, then sell out to corporate bullshite bar that is one step down from a hooters.
Here here! I loathe those chain antiseptic bars. You can have them.
I am a happy hour drinker. I don't go out trying to pull every piece of wool in the bar. I want a solid happy hr with regulars that you get to know. I wanna know the owner. I wanna know all the bartenders and cooks. I want a great conversation. I don't wanna have to give you my credit card to open a tab. Just write my name down because you trust me. Tips need to count for something. I want a heavy pour - why? Because I am there a a lot. If I drink too much, I want a bartender to call me a cab and take my keys away. I'll know where it is and can trust the bartender. You only get that at small neighborhood bars that take care of their regulars. If its run down a bit - OK. I don't care. I want everything I am looking for.
Ivars on the other hand is a different beast. Went there almost every M-F after work. Pat just nickle and dimed the hell out of you. He ran his regulars off. Thats his choice. Once they were gone I moved to Zee Zee's. Why, a fun happy hour.
When you young guys get older and want a place to escape - you will appreciate what we are saying.

I guess I don't go to any of them enough, but I don't find any of the Overpass bars to be any cleaner, or any cheaper to drink at than Ivars.
If Last In is going to move down there, they should put in a Roux House. That bar doesn't have a theme, and would be a nice "up-tempo" option to round out a night on the overpass.

Couldn't agree more with you
Can we start a petition to keep Happy's out of Southdowns?

We have one Roux House as is...I never understood why we need multiple locations of the same crappy bars. Bring something new to Baton Rouge. Last In Inc is the death of cool

Notice I said if Last In is going to come. It's not an awesome bar, but I'd prefer it by a good bit to Happy's.
And I don't know why ya'll are worried about the "younger" crowd coming with Happy's. The people in the Downtown one aren't really much of a different crowd.

yea you obviously dont go enough. ivars is by far the most expensive bar in that area

Maybe they ought to focus on doing something well as opposed to doing everything.
I wonder what the options they have as far as expanding? Walk-Ons is buying the building from the Reilly family so they can do what they want, but they will have limited space.
Either way, it fricking sucks that a bar void of characters and bartenders that know you might take its place in order to cater to 20 somethings.

I was responding as if you said "if last in is going there". I'm just saying in general that we don't need multiple bars of any of their creations. Southdowns and Downtown aren't really THAT far away from each other, so why polarize your clientele by making them choose between Happy's 1,2,3 or Roux House 1,2 etc...
And I'm not opposed to a younger crowd coming to Southdowns, I'm opposed to shitty companies brining in more bars devoid of character and feel. As Vol is stating, neighborhood bars need that "Cheers" or "Moe's Tavern" type feel

Of what? Beer? Wine? Go to The Bulldog or some wine bar if you want a wide selection of those. Go to a neighborhood bar to escape and enjoy the company.

Eh, I'd venture to argue that Duvic's is just as much a "neighborhood bar" and they have a very decent bottle selection of beer. They have a good bit of wine.. and obviously they make great cocktails. While the cocktail part isn't as important to me, I have no interest in going suck down Bud Lights regardless of where I am.
As I said, I enjoy Ivar's. But I agree they could improve the joint VERY easily. They advertised $4 Miller Lites on particular nights via posters on their wall last time I was there..
$4.. as a SPECIAL

yep. I'm not saying selection is a deal breaker though. What I was implying was that nothing about Ivar's warrants their prices. They should be the cheapest bar in that area for how crappy that place is.
