I'd venture to argue that Duvic's is just as much a "neighborhood bar"

No doubt, it is. But I don't like the combination of low ceilings and smoke.

AND believe it or not their food is half way decent.

Great place though. It has great character with a nice happy hour crowd.

They have a good bit of wine

I wouldn't know. If you say so I believe you.

and obviously they make great cocktails

Depends on the bartender. But thats the great thing about the place. The bartenders are allowed freedom to take care of regulars.

I enjoy Ivar's.

I did too before Pat decided pencil whip the regulars.

Seemed like the few responses I did read were negative. Just read thru the rest of the thread and you are correct.

I would hate for there to be another happys though

Ivan's is fun but seemed to have a more college crowd
Duvics is just cramped and nasty though. I went once and hasn't been back. Most people love it though...

Yeah, if we're talking "grime", Ivar's is 10x dirtier than Duvic's.

Their menu is pretty legit. And they now do Sunday brunch.

The night I went there were cigs on the floor and the place smelled like a Sunday morning fraternity house.

any bar that allows smoking is going to have this

the smell well thats another story. my 2 hangouts for the longest time were a pool hall and the bulldog which allow smoking. the pool hall had no ventilation and i used to spend 4-5 nights a week in there so smoke doesnt really bother me

I asked on the OT thread and no answer. Does Kevin Shingleton still own Zee Zee's?

No. Wilson owns it now. Kevin hasn't been there in years. Kevin manages the Georges on Highland.

Wilson isn't sure what he going to do since the Reilly's sold that building.

Yep. I've never been, but I've heard from friends that it's pretty good.

Here here! I loathe those chain antiseptic bars. You can have them.

I am a happy hour drinker. I don't go out trying to pull every piece of wool in the bar. I want a solid happy hr with regulars that you get to know. I wanna know the owner. I wanna know all the bartenders and cooks. I want a great conversation. I don't wanna have to give you my credit card to open a tab. Just write my name down because you trust me. Tips need to count for something. I want a heavy pour - why? Because I am there a a lot. If I drink too much, I want a bartender to call me a cab and take my keys away. I'll know where it is and can trust the bartender. You only get that at small neighborhood bars that take care of their regulars. If its run down a bit - OK. I don't care. I want everything I am looking for.

Ivars on the other hand is a different beast. Went there almost every M-F after work. Pat just nickle and dimed the hell out of you. He ran his regulars off. Thats his choice. Once they were gone I moved to Zee Zee's. Why, a fun happy hour.

When you young guys get older and want a place to escape - you will appreciate what we are saying.

Give me a hint of who you are.

I am under the overpass everyday for happy hour. Usually at Duvics.

If Last In is going to move down there, they should put in a Roux House. That bar doesn't have a theme, and would be a nice "up-tempo" option to round out a night on the overpass.

You fricking kidding me?

If I wanted to go to the Roux House, I'd go to the fricking Roux House.

That place fricking sucks. It's the worst bar down town. Over priced and shitty entertainment.

And the bartenders suck. If you even get the same bartender. That entire company has the worst turnover ever. They fire people for the most minor bullshite.

Under the overpass, we want consistency. We wnat to know who we are going to have serving us on a daily basis. We want Andi on Monday. Channing on Tuesday...etc...

The bartenders are the #1 thing for me when it comes to a bar, and overpass has the most enjoyable ones.

Are you part of group that plays golden tee everyday?

I would only go to Duvic's about once a month. A little more after Pat really started pencil whipping people. I was at Ivar's M-F for happy hour. Most Sundays too. Before I left I was at Zee Zee's almost daily - Ivar's on Sundays.
