Who doesn't know Blanche that goes in there?

I was generally at the table by the stairs with Wilson, a lobbyist - or three, a former LSU football player, someone in the coffee business, an attorney that is funny as hell and doesn't give a frick about anything, a land man and some others.

A wonderful group of guys that is fun as hell to hang out with.

LOL at the people bitching about Happy's going into that spot .. it is the same ones bitching about Ivar's and their drink prices .. This is how our free market works .. enjoy it ..

Yeah.

Here's the thing about Ivar's. Pat has lost a huge chunk of his clientele from the exorbitant prices. Also, he has gone completely off the deep end after all the personal life shite.

He has lost all his good employees. They have either quit, or been fired for BS. That bar is in trouble unless he gets his shite together. And soon.

You are right. Blanche is a large woman, but she is funny as hell. Every bar needs a Blanche

During St. Patrick's Day, they put employees out in the street/parking lot.. IDing people and trying to tell people they couldn't walk past with ice chests. When i showed him I had one beer in my ice chest and asked if I should chug it sarcastically, he said I was fine and could go. But the thing is they weren't even in the doorway to the bar.. they were in the street and put up a makeshift fence and wouldn't let people past it with icechests. I doubt if that was even technically Ivar's property.

It was like they were forcing people to either go into their bar or GTFO of the general area.

I was going there anyway and had a great time. But stuff like that IS a nickel and dime thing.

I've gone into ZeeZee's on a regular night with a beer already in hand from Duvic's and gone to throw it away, and Channing stopped me saying I was ridiculous and could bring it in. It's small things and being "real" with customers that make people happy.

Of course its not his, but don't ask him. He'll tell you otherwise.

One time he ran off a food truck that parked under the overpass. Honest to god I thought he was going to throw down with the guy in the truck.

He thinks of it all as his domain.

Anyway, its a shame BR is loosing a gritty colorful neighborhood bar that has soul and stories.

That may very well be so. Your brother worked at the restaurant with me, right?

If you're in overpass spots daily, there's a good chance we've met. And if not, there's a good chance we meet at some point because I will be moving onto Arlington/Zeeland this coming Monday and will be happy to be so close to everything.

Initials are HB. He moved to NOLA.

I am moving onto Hundred Oaks just past Arlington in a few weeks.

Next time you go in there, play some Tears for Fears for Andi. Everybody wants to rule the world.

Ah, yes yes. My sweet boy. I miss him dearly. I went with him to Duvic's many many times. He is actually the one who took me to the place originally because he liked to shoot pool there and was teaching my best friend how to.

That's ironic..

EVERY time Jones and I play the jukebox, the first song we play is Head Over Heels.

So you know Kern and my little Mamarelli right?

DH is one of my best friends. Was in his wedding.

I know both Kerns since the younger started working at Dempsey's for a while too. Both are gone, but yes I know them :)

And DH (if you're talking about Dan).. man I love that guy. We aren't the same place without him. My roommate works where he is now. She finds it hard to read him, but I told her it's why he's great. He won't sweet talk you, but he knows what he's doing.

He used to sneak out and buy ice cream sandwiches or candy when we had a slammed night and everyone handled it without screwing up.

Exactly who I'm talking about.

Little arrives this summer. And his brother is expecting too now.
