Who’s buying grocery store beef?

$10/lb chuck roasts, $9/lb ground beef, are people really buying all this up?

No way, man. I raise and slaughter my own beef. We have 1200 head ranging around Sherwood Forest. I got seven good hands working them for me, all outlaws, but brave men. Even got a cookie who pulls the chuck wagon down good wood ahead of us and starts cooking up a mess of biscuits so we have something to eat when we get to Flannery.

I’ve definitely been eating a lot more chicken and pork the last few years. But beef is king and I still eat it at least once a week for the sake of those around me. It keeps me tame.

Safeway has it for $4.99, 80%

Chuck’s are $4.99 to $5.99 and 80/20 ground is consistently $3.99 to $4.99 around here.
This is Metry. Where do you live with prices that high?

This is my point, who is paying the $9/lb at rouses? Are most folks just ignorant? Nobody in my circle is buying ground beef at almost $10/lb, and we’re all pretty well off.

That's "Mom & Pop" Convenience Store prices. Try shopping at a supermarket.
A couple weeks ago Zuppardo's in Metairie sold whole prime top sirloin beef roasts for $4.99 a lb. and Rouses N.O. stores had whole Prime N.Y. Strips for $10.99 a lb.
Learn how to break down larger cuts of beef to use to make your own ground meat, stew meat, roasts and steaks.

Yeah it's pretty obscene. I'm glad I only buy it when I specifically want beef 4 or 5 times per year. Chicken is the only meat I buy regularly. With what I spend hunting I'd probably save money switching from venison to beef but it isn't as much fun going to the grocery store

A quick check of this weeks Zuppardo ad and their meat prices.
Prime whole N.Y. Strip is $11.99 a lb.
Prime whole Top Sirloin is $5.99 a lb.
Choice whole Sirloin Tip is $4.99 a lb.
Choice Ground Chuck is $3.99 a lb. if bought 10 lbs. or more.
No reason to pay prices you have posted. The first 3 mentioned are for whole slabs that need to be parted out, and that is easily done. The bonus is any trimmed fat------and there will be trimmed fat-----can be cooked down to make tallow. Any trimmings can be used to make a beef stock.
Win/Win in my book.
Even better if you happen to have a vacuum sealer to store your meat in the freezer until needed after you part it out.

I don’t buy beef if it’s not on sale at this point. At my local Kroger last week they had 5 LB logs of 80/20 for $9. I bought all 8 of them, portioned to 1lb bags and put in the freezer. They usually put their mark down meat out around noon so I will try to go then.

That stuff goes on sale like every other week. Plus, how often are you buying a chuck roast?

same here. Invest in a good vacuum sealer and buy meat when it's on sale.

I've never had the "how much you paying for beef" conversation with friends.

You’re so cool bro. You’re right nobody is or has been talking about how expensive everything is the past couple of years.
I’m just trying to understand who is paying these prices and everyone who has replied is saying they buy it on sale, so I still don’t understand it.

Costco ground beef. 93/7 bull tube for $5ish/lb. This is the way
This is all I buy unless steaks gone on sale. Albertsons has nice sales pretty often though. I’m actually picking up their prime sirloins for $9.99 on my way home this afternoon.

You seem to be struggling with this so I will help. What the board is saying is most people shop sales. Yes some people will purchase stuff at a higher cost.

It’s just too easy to shop for a lower price. Obviously some people are paying for convenience if the store is near there house and/or they like the other items at the store.

Going to have government subsidized beef soon
President Donald Trump on Friday morning said he would exempt from tariffs 300,000 metric tons of imported ground beef

Where is that? Kroger brand 80/20 is 7.99 a pound or 3 lbs for 20 (so 6.67)
Why is beef so much cheaper there?
