I'm about to dabble into making sausage at home. I know this topic has come up before but where is the best place to get some hog casings?

call your local meat market, butcher, or slaughterhouse

Rouses or Whole Foods may be a long shot

I get mine the same place I get my sausage, pre-installed.

I like store bought sometimes. However, I would like to save some money and make good quality sausage at home.

Oak Grove Smokehouse in Prairieville has them and Lamendolas in Gonzales too.

But any grocer that has their own labeled sausage should have them and they are cheap. Just repack in salt what you don't use and they will keep for a year.

Cabelas has the synthetic that I know of. Not sure about natural casings. I've bought the big casing at Cabelas and made salami.

I picked up casings packed in salt from the Rouse's freezer section the other day. I've also bought them from the meat counter at Maxwell's and Alexander's on Highland.

I've used several from different sources but I like the casings from Cabela's best.

Rebel Butcher Supply

They'll ship you everything you can possibly need for sausage making and meat processing. They're out of Jackson MS. Highly recommend.

I second Rebel butcher supply. Their sausage seasoning is awesome and their BBQ rub is pretty damn good too. A lot of folks don't know but Rebel makes the seasoning for Vine Brothers.
