What’s your formula for picking out the best check out line at the grocery?

I do

(#of people in line) + (amount of groceries in each basket) - (skill of cashier) - (a bagger) x (what grocery store) = I’m usually wrong

If I have alcohol, I try to find a shorter line. If not, I try to find a vacant self checkout with a conveyor belt. Those little short ones with a shelf are fine if I'm just grabbing a few things, but I hate trying to scan/bag/find a place to sit it while the cart is still half full.

If there is a short self-checkout line, I go there. I don't mind the self-checkouts at all.

Otherwise, whatever regular line I pick will be the wrong one. So I pick one that has a cashier or customer in front of me that is easy on the eyes

I profile the clerk.

And I'm not going to reveal my criteria.

I don't put much thought into it. Where I shop, I have one cashier that I really like, so if she's working and her line is short, I'll go through her line. If her line is long, I'll go to the shorter line.

I only use self-checkout if I have a few items.

Pause and look at the cashiers, see which one is moving with speed.

I'm friends with two or three cashiers at the closest grocery store to me (Rouses... ). One is my good friends son. He'll open a register to check me out then close it...lol. Another is Ms. Sylvia. Elderly lady who I became friends with over the years. She works at customer service. She'll open the express lane there and wave me over.

Checkout lines rarely happen at well run stores like Calvin's.

Kroger: Scan, Bag, Go app. Everything is scanned and bagged (exception of alcohol, if purchasing) before I reach the self checkout lane. Yes, I bring my own reusable bags.

Sam's: Scan and Go app, I walk to the exit past all the dolts waiting in to checkout and am in my car before they hit the exit. If I use self scan, I position all of my product so the UPC code is visible. This way I can shoot them with the scan gun and be on my way.

I look for an old lady. Get in line and wait for the cashier to finish bagging all her groceries and then let the old lady know what she owes. Then the old lady goes into her purse to find her checkbook. After 10 more minutes its my turn to piss people off by questioning prices

Generally I know which cashiers are better than others.
Then I go all judgmental on whose in line in front of me.

I pay more to shop at non trashy places so it’s not usually an issue

I profile the shoppers in line first. I want to be in line with people that look like they have somewhere else to be.
