re: What’s your formula for picking out the best check out line at the grocery?

I just get in line and wave the white flag and admit defeat. Unless at Tony’s seafood, they know how to get your azz in and out fast. All stores should go and take notes, the world would be a better place.

pick the one i think will be fastest. then go to another one.

The local Academy has that system. No extra employee required. When a register becomes open, its light flashes. and the PA says "Next customer at register 5 please."

But, as you say, "people are stupid," so you sometimes have to tell the moron in front of you to wake up and go to register 5.

I ran into the store yesterday for a few things. One of which was toilet paper which I stuck into the bottom rack of the mini-cart I was using. Got the rest of my things and went to the registers. All looked about the same so I picked one and unloaded my groceries on the belt.

I didn’t notice beforehand that there was a divider between most of her food and two bags of apples. The cashier finished ringing up the main order and she paid. Then he rang up the apples on a separate order. Apparently they didn’t ring up at the price she was expecting, but she didn’t notice until she was paying. So they canceled to transaction and started again. Which required the cashier to borrow the scan card from the adjoining cashier to access the register function that allowed him to do so. Then he rang the apples up again and they rang up the same way. Which started a several minute conversation about the correct price. At the end of the conversation the transaction was once again canceled (requiring waiting for the other cashier to bring their scan card over,etc) and the woman stepped aside at the end of the register.

Rang my groceries up and paid and walked to the door. I looked down and dammit, the toilet paper. It took so long to get to the cashier that I forgot all about getting it scanned. So I turn around and go back to the cashier and wait until he is finished with his current customer and have him check me out for the toilet paper. The kicker was the apple woman was still standing there on the phone with someone talking about the cost of the apples.

Took at least 10 more minutes just because of the stupid apples.

I try to avoid getting behind old people or people who do a months worth of shopping at one time... other than that, all my other analytics have been shite on time after time...

I don’t shop at Walmart. It’s never a problem at Costco

Been to the new Zuppardos a couple of times


You high end grocery shoppers are very fortunate you don’t have to deal with the riff raff

Outstanding meats

Outstanding liquor and wine selections
(And excellent prices)

Specialty foods

Cheeses

Excellent

Not to mention their fried chicken


But you do have to deal with the “ladies”

Check out is awesome because they have several lanes open

And have baggers working too.

They also will box your wine/liquor for you
