Depends on what kind of bar.

If they look like they’re competent at cocktails and have some specialty stuff I’ll do whatever take on a Manhattan they’re offering. If it’s a bar with a good beer menu I’ll go with a beer. If it’s a shitty bar that I find myself at with some buddies for college football or after a wedding reception and I’m trying to get belligerent then whatever the cheapest domestic they have or beam and Diet Coke

Depends on the bar. If it is a place with a good wine list, I will get wine. If not, if I think they can make a good Sazerac, I will get that. If not, a gin martini. If all else fails, there is always beer.

If it's a good bar, then a sazerac. Bar with someone who looks like they don't want to be there... Tito's and tonic or a Bombay Sapphire martini DIRTY.

I hear good things about an Old Fashioned. That may be what I ask for next time I go.

I like this if at a proper bar. Some places will make an OF that is way too sweet.

Whiskey of choice either neat or with a couple rocks for me usually.

1. Craft beer of some sort
2. Bourbon or scotch near
3. A Manhattan

Strawberry daiquiri, extra umbrellas and a twisty neon straw.

Depends on the bar, but almost everywhere has Jameson and it's hard to frick up Jameson on the rocks. I wouldn't say it's exactly a go to but it's at least a fallback.

If it’s a nice place, a martini. The true test of whether the bartender knows what they’re doing.

They’re going to screw that up too.

Tanqueray and Tonic
Good IPA
Old Fashioned
Beefeater martini on the rocks

I very rarely step outside of these four choices unless I'm at a craft cocktail bar where I'll try some crazy shite or if I'm at a Mexican joint where I feel obligated to get a margarita.

Depends on what I’m in the mood for and what kind of bar.
Cocktail lounge? Probably an Old Fashioned, Sazerac, or some kind of gin-based cocktail special

Daiquiri bar? Frozen pina colada

Sports bar? Beer. Probably a local craft if available, Youngling or Coors Light if not.

Music venue? Honey Jack & coke

Outdoor patio? Bayou spiced rum and Arnold Palmer

Standard bar: sapphire (gin) and tonic with a lime

Classy bar: old fashioned with a mid level bourbon
