What do you Tip Dine-in vs. take-out?
Dine-in Service: 20% rounded up or down.

Take-out: 10% rounded up or down.

I usually include the tax in the total amount and do not extract alcohol cost. The only exception to this is if I order a bottle of wine that is above the $50 mark, I typically tip $10.00 for the bottle service, but extract that beverage cost from the bill total. I don't see a need to tip $20 on a hundred dollar bottle of wine.

Sometimes I am just lazy and put 20% on the entire bill.

Depends on the total but I don’t tip much for take out. Then again the only takeout I get is Chinese

Usually 20% dine in.

Nothing or a buck or two for takeout.

re: What do you Tip Dine-in vs. take-out?
So let me get this straight:

Food: $100
Wine: $100
Tax: $20
Total: $220
Tip 20% $34

All that extra math you did saved you $10, not even worth it. If the service was good the server deserves the extra money IMO.

Just do this and don't worry about it! LOL!

I tip 20% across the board rounded up to whatever makes the total bill an even number.

re: What do you Tip Dine-in vs. take-out?
I only tip a few bucks for take out. Most restaurants have that position totally separate from waiting tables and the person is getting paid minimum wage, at least. A couple bucks from a few people an hour gives them a nice hourly wage. They aren’t serving me or refilling anything. Don’t see why I should tip even 10%. If they find some way to go above and beyond then sure, I’ll throw in more.

Now that I think about it, usually I am picking up for only myself so if my bill is around $20 then tipping $2 is 10% anyway. But it I picked up for a big group and the bill was $100 I wouldn’t suddenly tip $10.

Why in the world would I tip for take-out?

I tip 20% in and a couple of dollars for takeout. But during the lockdown I tipped 30-40% for takeout

re: What do you Tip Dine-in vs. take-out?
Depends on lots of variables. Lots of stuff conveniently not on the bill? My tip may be more than the bill itself.
One drink that’s $4? I’ll tip 100%.

If it’s a nice dinner over $100 and I don’t know the person, more like 30%

I never get takeout but it’s not far off from dine in tipping when I do. There’s really no rhyme or reason. I give what I’m feeling. If I’ve been drinking, double it.

This is pretty much my standard too.

Why not? Appreciation for the service, particularly when restaurants are struggling? Maybe it's a regular spot, and you do it for goodwill?

Usually 20% rounded up for dine in.

Dine in is generally 20%, Take out is $1 per entree ordered (usually $4-5), but since most of our recent dining has been take out, and I know these servers are struggling, I’ve been going 20-25% depending on the bill.

re: What do you Tip Dine-in vs. take-out?
Friend,

Traditionally, takeout meant leaving a $5 tip for each meal that was packaged. Once the shutdown happened, we rarely got takeout, fearing that the packaging would fomites, helping spread the disease. Once our fears subsided a little, we began getting Impastato's regularly. In order to help support them, I left a 50% tip every time. We have not returned to dining inside restaurants yet. When we do, we will return to 20-25% tips.

Yours,
TulaneLSU

Used to be 20% dine in and $5 for takeout unless it was a bigger order.

Now I do at least 30% for dine in and $15 for takeout to try and help my favorite places as much as I can.

18% dine in
10% take out. Sometimes 15% these days as there is no dine in option and I know these restaurants are hurting and I'd prefer they stay open.

re: What do you Tip Dine-in vs. take-out?
Tips of 10-20% are meant for the service rendered while dining in.

$1-2 for taking my own damn food away and bringing it home

I say this as someone that was a server for 5 years
