“Ugly Delicious” on Netflix

What are some good episodes? I just watched the steak one, which was pretty good, except the little PC shite (global warming due to farming, and the gay guy saying he won’t eat in certain restaurants because it has too many straight white republicans).
The show did make me go take three filets out of the freezer.
It also makes me want to go to Japan and try some of those wagyu restaurants.
Any other good episodes?

I enjoy Phil although his shtick can get old. He seems like a genuinely nice guy.

Josh Ozersky was Chang’s old friend and he posted online a Momofuku menu before it was released and Chang barred him for life from all his restaurants. Went as far as posting his picture on the wall of each restaurant so his staff knew what he looked like. Then when Ozersky died refused to take the picture down. Yeah...he’s a douchebag.
I prefer Chef’s Table and Mind of a Chef as well as Salt, Fat, Acid, Heat

“Ugly Delicious” is a weak attempt by Chang to denigrate food that isn’t from Asia. Although he also attempts to say that all food has some kind of root in Asian cuisine.
He was also an elitist a-hole with the Domino’s delivery scene and I couldn’t stomach any more after that.

I enjoyed both seasons. DC has an interesting perspective & even though I may not completely agree with his opinion, I can appreciate our differences.

That's way to personal. Same thing could be said about any chef who left the kitchen to make T.V. Do you think Bourdain or Ramsey are try-hard chodes?
They're all just guys trying to make an honest living & giving a glimpse into their worlds.
Thanks for sharing your opinion about the other shows. I didn't care too much for SFAH the show but her book is well written.

I really liked Chang on Mind of a Chef, but then he started fermenting his own farts for personal consumption when he did Ugly Delicious. I could only take a few episodes before I stopped.

Chang is a very good chef and restauranteur but not a very bright person. He did have one good episode of ugly delicious, the first of the second season I believe, where he talks about becoming a father and his family.
It amazes me that someone can be as well traveled and as worldly as a celebrity chef but still be a gatekeeper for certain types of cuisine. It has been a few years but I'm pretty sure he had no problem with Rene Redzepi going to Mexico and learning how to make tacos, but had a problem with white Americans cooking Nashville hot chicken.
It really comes off as pretentious, pompous, and privileged to become rich and famous and then decide to adjudicate what is culturally acceptable in cuisine.
Anyone could go for thousands of words saying how food knows no borders, every culture borrows from another, and we are better off for it, but I think it goes without saying.

I understood this as an opportunity to educate him on something he did not understand. To bridge the cultural gap.
I'm not a DC apologist & I understand that everyone has a different perspective but I don't fault the dude for being ignorant.

I found the article you pulled that from, and it was very well written. The writer brought up a good point. David Chang is second generation immigrant (like the Vietnamese woman he spoke to in New Orleans). One of the big things second+ generation folks say they despise is being asked where they’re “from” because they’re from here. I guarantee you Chang hates it too and probably has mouthed off when people ask him that.
Yet here he is pressuring a Vietnamese woman who was born and raised in New Orleans to ignore that part of her identity and adhere to Vietnamese culture. It’s just weird and gatekeeper-y.
