Not gonna be a "review" ... Place is excellent. One of the better in Houston, IMO. You should go if you havent been..... I missed a few, but here are some dishes from last night

hama chili: baby yellowtail, ponzu thai chili, orange supreme

brussel sprouts: crispy brussel sprouts, lemon, sweet chili

gyutoro: 72 hour wagyu short rib

sake recommended by server. Ur guess is as good as mine

uchiviche: salmon, striped bass, tomato, bell pepper, garlic, cilantro

yaki kohitsuji: lamb, english pea, morel

bacon tataki: pork belly, black lime, cilantro, scallion, expresso fish caramel

hot rock: diver scallop, sanbaizu

boquerones: spanish cured anchovy

sake toro: salmon belly, ikura

hanna: cauliflower

Dessert:

peanut butter semifreddo: apple-miso sorbet

fried milk: chocolate milk, toasted milk, iced milk sherbet

I missed alot of the nigri that came out... gyu-minch (chopper wagyu w quail egg), nasu (japanese eggplant, lemon miso), foie nigiri (seared fois gras, quinoa), zero sen sushi (yellowtail, avocado, shallot, cilantro, tobikio, yuzu), kabocha (japenese pumpkin), walu walu (oak grilled escolar, candied citrus, yuzpon, myoga), and a special mushroom nigri that was amazing

Place is outstanding.

nice

I've been to both Uchiko and Uchi in Austin and we preferred Uchiko, but both were excellent.

I love going to places and just ordering all the small plates.

I've literally been all over the Houston area searching out the best of whatever, tacos, bbq, pho, fish heads....doesn't matter, I'll travel.

But I live 5 blocks down the street from Uchi and it is one place that just doesn't do a God damn thing for me.

I'd love to live in that little area. My SO's parents are a few blocks away and we visit a good bit. Hay Merchant, Uchi, Burger Joint, HEB close by...what more do you need?

It's pretty nice living in this area...I'm closer to Torchy's/Roost/Paulie's, but yeah, I don't ever leave my bubble.

Uchi was the best sushi meal I've had in the city. The chefs are masters of their craft and the omakase was spectacular. That being said, I frequent Kata robata more so and Manibu knows what he is doing. A lot of his fish easily rivals uchi (especially his house prepared unagi and anago), but the complexity of a tasting menu is not as deep as theirs. Oishii is walking distance and it's my cheap sushi go to, and the fish is solid.

I need to give MF Sushi another try off of Binz.

Hmmm... Me too but I have not been to Oishii yet. I'll make a visit soon

OP, looks like an awesome meal. I'll do the omakase there someday. Me and the ol' lady will have to make some plans there soon.
