Cake/Muffins does not = cornbread
Cornbread consists of bakin soda, bakin powder, corn meal, buttermilk, whole milk, egg, salt, pepper, bacon grease, & a cast iron skillet... thats all.

My people won't eat anything but what I call "corn cake". It certainly isn't corn bread. I hate it, but it's what they like.....

Jiffy is not real cornbread (it is mostly wheat flour) and it sure as hell isn't southern, either in taste or origin. Best southern style from a mix is Pioneer, milled in San Antonio.

I don't even understand the point of non sweet cornbread. Corn is naturally sweet, why not make it better?

I disinfect Jiffy Cornbread mix by adding a little Steen's syrup to it. It kills any and all Yankee influence and turns it instantly into a southern classic.

True...this is why some old timer's, and me since I watched my grandma do it, dessert is cornbread with cane syrup. Wouldn't need the cane syrup if it was sweet.

Pioneer must have gotten it from a southerner. San Antone aint "suthan"
