This sums up why decent poboys are rare in BR

From the Advocate's review of Phil's Oyster Bar. discussing the shrimp poboy:
If the bread is soft, it is a sandwich on a bun, it is not a poboy. I was in Phil's for my 1st visit Tuesday and ordered the aforementioned shrimp poboy, when they brought it to the table my first thought was 'what is this crap'. The bun was too small, it was soft, had no character, could not stand up to the filling.
Did everyone raised in BR have their mommas cut the crust off the bread? Is good crusty poboy bread, as in Leidenheimer's, to hard on their immature palates?
A bun is not suitable for a poboy, period.

I can't stand leidenheimer bread or bread similar. It turns into a giant crumb on your shirt as I take a bite. Soft po-boy bread is the tits

If the poboy material is sloppy (like good messy roast beef), I want very crusty, stiff bread. For neat poboy material (like fried shrimp), I want soft bread.

If you read the review in the Advocate why did you order the shrimp po boy on the soft bread? Seems like you just cant comprehend. Leidenheimer bread is all over Baton Rouge.

My visit was before yesterday's review.
Yes, I have had shitty poboys in NO, and good ones in BR, but a mushy bun, that can't hold the filling, is not right wherever you eat it.
I might as well get all lathered up over something innocuous as sandwich bread to deflect what's going on in the news.

Tough bread of any kind sucks.
