What’s the deal with this place? There is a line out the door and it’s causing traffic jams on Focis Street. Is it really that good?

Absolutely phenomenal ice cream. The guy that started the business has been doing pop-ups/weekly drops with small batches for the past several years in Harahan/Elmwood area. He releases at least 3 custom creations weekly and has a few other selections that are staples in stock weekly. His drops go "live" on Wednesdays at 7pm on Hotplate.

He sells out literally within 20-30 minutes. Pickup windows are staggered between Thursday, Friday, and Saturdays. It's premium price, but the product is well worth it. We've bought from him a few times over the past year, but it's difficult to get there routinely with the past pickup times he offers. He and Laozi are the best Nola has to offer ice cream wise.

I've never been, but I've heard from solid sources that it is worth the hype.

The Old Met location only sells soft serve ice cream with a cookie. I heard it is $12. There’s a constant traffic jam outside fighting for parking spots and a long line inside. Neither the line nor the price for soft serve make it worthwhile to me.

I’m guessing some folks are there for the Ill Supremo pizza, which is adding to the traffic.
Quite the little business model they have put together for that location.

It's incredible. Would you pay $12 for an incredible dessert at a restaurant? Very likely.

There's something about the texture that is very different than any soft serve or ice cream I've ever had. It's like a hybrid gelato/yogurt/ice cream. Almost feels like it doesn't melt at all and its not harshly cold either. Maybe Alton Brown could break it down.

Comes down to your perceived value for your dollar. I'm not buying a $12 dessert every night f my life but certainly will occasionally for what I value as a great product I like and enjoy.

Laozi is easier to get, that’s for sure. I had looked into Super Witch but seems like a pain to secure

I still haven't had either of these. I thought Laozi only sold it in tubs?

It is really good.

Not worth waiting in a long arse line, but not sure anything is worth that.

Well damn. Guess I’ll just have to settle for super witch some day. Do they do any flavored stuff or just vanilla and chocolate

The cookie and the ice cream on top are huge and delicious. My family of 3 splits one.

Also, understand your market...Old Metairie and Lakeview mom's can afford whatever they are charging.

Friend,

We have now tried Super Witch twice, and twice I have been left wondering what precisely has caused the crowds to gather. The ice cream is not even average. I would rather eat Breyers from the grocery store and save the difference for something worthwhile. I can only describe the lines and online blether as a species of antediluvian foolishness, a pabulum unworthy of the cyber adulation it receives.

Both pints purchased, one a Caludas king cake infused mess and the other I think was blueberry, though I have tried to erase that memory so I am not sure, languished in our freezer for weeks, having just a few bites missing, before ultimately being tossed. I thought we were done with the company, but like Joe who will be doing tree work in the neighborhood and wants to quote out a job, this company thinks mass text spam is an effective way to grow a following.

If Baskin-Robbins is an 8/10, Super Witch is a 2/10, and I believe I am being charitable. I maintain that Il Supremo still has the best pizza in Louisiana, although the gap is closing. But that ice cream is about as bad as ice cream can be. It is a revelation, as in you have led a wicked life and the Four Horsemen of Revelation have come to bring justice, for who ever could have believed ice cream could taste bad? Scarcity and hype, not taste and quality, are its two driving forces.

Yours,
TulaneLSU

It's soft serve frozen custard not really ice cream it's good because it's so rich.
Frozen custard isn't as big around here as it is in other places. For the longest we only had Todd's.
Now we have two popular pop ups with it.
