Might as well drink Diet Coke if you’re going to add Mio.

Not saying he needs to drink 6-8 lacroix/MiO combos a day, but one a day is certainly better than multiple diet cokes or regular cokes.

I think the problem he wants to eliminate is the excess sugar.

we have Spindrift at my house. It's supposedly "the only sparkling water made with real squeezed fruit." 1 calorie, 0 carbs or sugars.

They have lemon, cucumber, strawberry, grapefuit, etc. Tastes really good mixed with our Wheatley's Vodka.

I kicked soda as my New Year's resolution this year, and haven't looked back. January was tough, but as other folks have said LeCroix is pretty great. I wasn't up to 6-8 a day but I was probably averaged around 4.

Make some Zatarain's Root Beer and only use half or less of the amount of sugar they recommend. Lemonade with fresh lemons, iced tea, etc. if you want to stay from all the carbonation and sugars of sodas. You can control the amount of sweetener you use in things you prepare yourself.

I did this last year. I'll have an occasional Mexican Coke at the taco truck, but that's only once or twice a year. I pretty much eliminated all sugar from my diet for the first 9 months of last year.

I'm convinced sugar is the worst thing for you diet, and all this focus on fat and cholesterol has been dumb.

And yes, the sweet cravings that first month were intensely insane. Your body telling you it needs that drug.

I am on day 225 of nothing but water. For years I tried kicking my soda habit(4-5) a day, but would foolishly try to substitute it with juice, lemonade, Gatorade and so on. I finally just had enough and drink nothing but water. The first month was a killer, but I rarely even want one anymore. Never felt better.

No, not all San Pellegrino is soda. Plain, unflavored San Pellegrino (green glass or plastic bottles) is just sparkling mineral water. The fruit sodas by San Pellegrino in cans contain added fruit juices and sugar.

Order what the hell you want in restaurants. Who worries if others will judge them for ordering sparkling water? Insecure 12 year olds, but grownups paying their own way can order WTF they like. I'd probably think it more strange if you ordered a soft drink with a decent meal rather than ordering bottled water.

Life's too short to not drink soda... although I try to buy more raw sugar drinks when I can.

Add some lemonade, fresh natural lemonade, not that minute maid crap or similar, with high lemon joice %.

Helps prevent kidney stones as a benefit.

First, get down to one a day. The easy way to do that is to realize that drinking one in the evening (i.e. with dinner) will hurt your ability to fall asleep at night. Then, maybe try to focus on cutting out the corn syrup sodas and replace them with real sugar sodas. They fill you up faster, taste better, and aren't quite as terrible for you. The added benefit is that you'll be less likely to buy a soda at a restaurant or fast-food joint because their odds of carrying a real sugar soda are very very low. It's a mental trick that results in you drinking WAY less soda.

Then, start slowly replacing those sodas with semi/sweet tea and/or lemonaid

Then, start replacing those with actual fruit juice and unsweetened tea.

Eventually, the less often you drink sodas, the less you will want them because they'll taste "too sweet".

Now, it's pretty rare I drink a soda unless I'm at a bar and want something to mix with a cheap well liquor.

I stopped with all soft drinks cold turkey about a month ago. I was a 64oz a day drinker. Like the Crystal lite powder. I was already drinking alot of unsweet tea. Sugar substitute with that. Dasani makes some tasty flavored waters but they are hard to find. Not a fan of carbonated water at all. Dropped 10lbs in 3 weeks with no soda, alcohol and better eating habits.

I found what I really craved was the “sting” of the carbonation, and not necessarily the taste.

Ask if they have sparkling waters such as Perrier, Pellegrino, etc. Yes, others may think you are a bit of a douche bag. But if you are trying to quit soda but still want the "burn", it's a nice alternative.

If you're afraid of sounding like a douche asking for Grey Poupon, ask if they would bring you soda water with a lemon/lime. You might get a bit of side eye, but you probably won't get any full scale derision. If they have a soda machine or a full bar, it shouldn't be an issue.

Plus it's a hell of a lot cheaper.
