Schlitz beer no longer

Schlitz beer is about to be brewed for the last time.
Wisconsin Brewing Company, with permission from Schlitz's owner, Pabst Brewing Company, announced it'll brew a final 80-barrel batch on Saturday, May 23, at its Verona brewery. The batch will be brewed using Schlitz's specifications dating back to 1948,
The company was founded in 1849 in a Milwaukee tavern before later expanding and, at one time, becoming America's largest brewer. Kirby Nelson with Wisconsin Brewing Co. said he wanted the brand to go out with "dignity and respect," according to the Journal Sentinel.

Some venture capitalists will buy the rights and remake it and sell it as the next PBR or Rolling Rock remake. I have great memories of a cold draft Schlitz and pizza at the Pastime Lounge when Mr Joe tended bar. Schlitz was a good draft beer.

Pour one out for Schlitz.
Or maybe don't because you don't want to waste what's left.
I'm really not sure.

When in college I had a first date with a girl who was a complete smoke show. When I asked her out the only thing I knew about her was her name.
We were walking from my car to a party and ran into a friend of mine on the sidewalk who was walking in the opposite direction. We stopped, talked, and he gave us two Schlitz beers. We all went on our way.
So she and I were walking along, chatting, and sipping on our beers when I decided to let her know how worldly and sophisticated I was.
ME: I don't know why everyone in Louisiana drinks Schlitz beer. This stuff is awful.
HER: Do you know what my dad does?
ME: No, but I think I am about to find out.
HER: He's a Schlitz distributor.
ME: Oh, sorry.
Then I thought to myself that I had really wanted to go out with this girl, got my chance, and then screwed things up on the first date. I thought she would never go out with me again. Of course she did once she saw how sweet and charming I really am.

The first beer I ever tasted was Shlitz. My Dad was drinking it and thought I wouldn't like it it. I think I was 5 or 6. He was wrong, I've loved beer ever since
Thank's Dad! RIP!

The Blue Bull baby! Donate plasma on Highland, stop at the convenience store next door on the way home, and forget you had an econ exam in two hours.

Same. I was a toddler and my parents thought it was funny that I wanted a sip. I loved it and I would always ask for (and get) sips or even a little in my cup thereafter whenever they had a cold one.
They later migrated to Miller Lite, but I never forgot about Schiltz. I became a beer drinker for life at an early age and I suspect that was also why I loved my Mom's beer bread and beer biscuits so much.

Had a good buddy who was so bummed out when the real brewery ended their run. Hope I never see Bud Heavy take that path.

The line is elementary school, but great reference nonetheless

It makes sense on multiple levels, imo. People don't drink beer nearly as much as they used to. shite, younger generations don't consume as much alcohol in general (a good thing). Also, when is the last time you saw someone drinking a Schlitz in the wild? It's more of a novelty/nostalgia beer than one your typical drinker would have as their go-to.
It was a great beer, especially for a mass-produced, American style lager. It was my grandfather's favorite beer, as well. Kind of sad to see the world change in front of you like that, but that's showbiz.

Every time I drank schlitz, it tasted so bad that it made me pony up the dough to buy a decent beer to wash the taste out. I never minded PBR, but Schlitz was borderline undrinkable.

Schlitz is an acquired taste to be sure. Maybe someone will buy the brand and stick to the old recipe.
It reminds me of Grain Belt which my dad drank in Iowa. Only for the true beer connoisseurs.
