The two I think come closest to not having that awful taste are DDP and any diet root beer.

Pepsi Max does as well. I only drink soft drinks as mixers during a tailgate, and Pepsi Max is as good or better than Coke Zero as a mixer as far as limiting the diet taste is concerned.

ETA: Apparently it is now called Pepsi 0 Sugar, but appears to be the same formula. Hopefully that will be the same approach Coke makes, just a rebranding of sorts.

I get a $1 Coke Zero from Mcdonalds every day on my way to work. Hopefully all of the places that currently have Coke Zero will get it replaced with the Zero Sugar one and won't treat it as a new product. I was drinking Coke Zero for 10+ years before I could regularly find it at restaurants.

I was a junkie until I discovered Diet Doctor Pepper Cherry. Give it a whirl.

LSU law school had a vending machine that sold Tab in longneck bottles as late as the 80s. Got me through many a boring lecture.

why do they need 2 versions of diet coke?
Probably in part for a marketing monopoly. There's only so much shelf space and dispensers. Miller did this years ago too. First there was only Miller beer. Then came their diet beer (Lite), then Genuine Draft and Red Dog. Soon a lot of spigots in bars were mostly Miller.

I don't drink soda at all so this is meaningless to me.

Diet Coke was based on the formula for New Coke. Coke Zero is based on the Coca-cola Classic formula.

This is correct. I find it amusing that people shite on New Coke yet guzzle down Diet Coke

Was never a big fan. If I'm choosing diet, going with Diet Coke or diet Dr Pepper

A couple weeks ago, Food Town did not have my regular mixer that I use with rum. I got Coke Zero and was very disappointed. It didn't taste good and had caffeine. What the hell is the "zero" for if it has caffeine.

This is the only true "zero" soda. It is the only drink approved by the Atkins diet and is listed as such on their website. And it tastes better than Coke, Pepsi or any of their shitty underlings.

Diet Rite Cola, Diet Rite Cherry, Diet Rite Red Raspberry, Diet Rite Tangerine and Diet Rite White Grape.

Coke Zero also comes in caffeine free. I drink it sometimes because I have a low tolerance for caffeine.

why would you not replace that awful sucralose with stevia or something all natural?

Because stevia's aftertaste is crap.

I think this is part of the reason they are re-branding as "Zero Sugar". My wife drinks it, and she mentioned last night that several of her coworkers thought it had zero caffeine, although the company has never said that.

Diet Coke has a little more caffeine, but both it and Zero have it.

I prolly dont drink 10 soft drinks a year but when I do they not diet I figure as few as I drink I am better off with the sugar than all the aspartame and other bad chemicals.

Even if this new formula is good, will it be easy to find?

A lot of restaurants carry Coke Zero, but will they carry the replacement or will it take a lot of time to catch on?
