Pour one out...

If you like your Coke Zero exactly the way it is now, it might be time to start stockpiling cans of sodas.

On Wednesday, Coca-Cola announced that it would stop selling Coke Zero in the US in August, replacing it with a beverage with a different recipe, design, and name: Coke Zero Sugar.

That shite was like crack to me. Hopefully the new stuff isn't New Coke V2.

When I drink a coke, Coke Zero is what I drink. I hope the new recipe is good. I guess it wasn't selling well or became too expensive or both.

Dammit. That was the one diet drink that actually did not taste like a diet drink. Will need a new bourbon mixer for the dog walks.

I can't go through that again. Coke Zero is my favorite, for real, and making it more like real Coke doesn't sound like an improvement. Time to start stockpiling. 1985 all over again.

The problem is they taste awful after a certain time. They have expiration dates and I've had several past those dates that just weren't drinkable. Stockpiling will only last so long.

I never understood the appeal of soft drinks (outside of being used as a cocktail mixer). Sucking down black corn syrup just seems gross.

I don't drink diet soda very often. But when I do, it's Coke Zero.

Stay thirsty my friends.

Same here. I know it's bad for me, and I don't drink them very often (maybe one a week), but when I get the craving, Coke Zero is the only one I reach for. Hope they don't screw it up.

When I first heard about this, I thought they were planning to use some different sugar substitute in the formula (which would change the flavor) but it looks like it will be the same.

More detail from this USA Today LINK:

quote:

The replacement is very similar to Coke Zero in taste, said industry expert and Beverage Digest executive editor Duane Stanford. The ingredient list is exactly the same, meaning the formulation was likely tweaked only slightly.

quote:

"It’s not as if it’s some complete overhaul of the formula," he said. "It’s really as much about the package redesign and repositioning as anything. One of the things they’re trying to do is make it 100% clear that there is no sugar in the product and that it is a no-calorie product."

My husband uses Coke Zero as a mixer, so it'll be interesting to see if the flavor changes much.

Was never a big fan. If I'm choosing diet, going with Diet Coke or diet Dr Pepper

That's a good question, b/c Diet Coke is awful it tastes like Tab. Hope they don't mess w/ Zero too much, it is fine just the way it is.

THIS

why would you not replace that awful sucralose with stevia or something all natural?

and that half-sugar green coke that costs 3x as much as a normal coke doesn't count.
