As a kid, my family would regularly go to Venzia's to get pizza. There was no other option in the city at that point. Still produces a good pie.

Do you want:

Creole Italian or Red Sauce Ialian (Vincent's, Pascal Manale's, Mandina's, plenty others)
Boot Italy (Domenica, Avo, Gianna, Pizza Delicious' pastas)

There was a fantastic recent issue of Bon Appetit that explored all the many facets, feelins, derivations, etc... of red sauce Italian.

Pizza Delicious' pastas

I am a huge fan of PD's pastas. Handmade, compiled with restraint, very Italian in the focus on two or three principal seasonal flavors.

+1 to Ancora, as well. Simple contorni (veg sides) are often excellent. Too bad the place is noisier than a bus barn. Go at lunch or off hours if you want to hear and talk, rather than shout and misunderstand.

It really is fantastic. The series is called Red Sauce America. The best article was the interview with the man who has worked at a red sauce joint in Brooklyn for 41 years. His stories are awesome.

Domenica was my favorite for a while, not sure if it's still up to par after the changes in BRG though.

Went a couple Saturdays ago and got the cured meats and cheese for app and Lasagna for entree, was friggin amazing. Chef Alon Shaya used to run the kitchen before leaving for his own ventures, but after not having been in a few years it was just as good as I remember it.

Venezia is my favorite. Avo, Mosca's, Italian Barrel, Irene's all great also. Can't wait to try Gianna.

This is the correct list, adding Domenica and Marcello's.

Sandro's Trattoria lasagna never lets me down. Except when I'm craving it on Sunday and they're F'ing closed. Vincent's in Metairie is closed Sundays too!

I'd add Red Gravy, my current favorite.

I also enjoy IB very much.

Haven't been to Venezia in many years. I need to go back.

I didn't love Irene's when I went, but I'd like to go again to the new venue.

Moscas used to be much better. The chicken would be loaded with garlic cloves. Now you are lucky to have 3-4 pieces, same with the shrimp. It's a fun place to eat and drink.
