I'd add Red Gravy, my current favorite.

Haven't been there in years. It was a solid lunch spot back in the day. The lady who ran it used to post on NOLA food boards. She was a little cuckoo.

a little?

That's one of the reasons I like the place so much. Roseann's always been very, very cool with me, though.. She's a New Yorker.. and she really loves New Orleans.

Some time ago, I saw some of her Facebook posts in response to some critical reviews. She didn't hold back.

I read a post of hers about being invited to the radio station to meet Tom Fitzmorris. There was some kind of miscommunication. She had cooked all this food to bring to him and he didn't meet with her and they told her to leave the food there.. She was furious and insulted. It was a nightmare.. and one of the funniest stories I've ever read.

Not sure how casual or high end restaurant the OP is looking for, but Liuzza's has excellent poboys, and Italian dishes in a very relaxed atmosphere.

Oak Oven and Happy Italian in Harahan.
Gendusa's Italian Market on Williams Blvd. in Kenner.
Red Gravy on Camp Street in New Orleans.

Calling Liuzza by the Track “Italian” is like calling Adofo’s Italian

New Orleans is its own world.. One Saturday at Liuzza's this drunk girl from out of town comes in and sits down and starts cheering for her football team on the tv.. and the bartender changed the channel.

USED to be one of my favorites. The last two times I went, the food and service was really lacking. And not lacking in service in the typical Liuzzas way. but like really being extra bitchy and slow

RIP frenchuletta

Anyway, my answer to this thread is Oak Oven. Love that place

I complained about a meal at liuzzas on the Nola eats FB group(had taken out of town friends there, was embarrassed), and the owner messaged me and admitted that the line cooks use water to stretch their red gravy lol
