Could make a vinaigrette

Make strawberry preserves

Strawberries and cream makes for a rich dessert

Cut them up in some cottage cheese for a healthy breakfast or snack

Dip in chocolate

Include in a smoothie

Make homemade ice cream or milkshakes

Add into a baby spinach based salad

Use as a cereal topping

Enjoy with champagne

Make a crumble or cobbler

Blend into pancake batter

Add to a sweet salsa like a mango salsa

Slice and use as a topping on a dessert pizza

Slice them and put them on a tortilla or flatbread with Nutella and a couple marshmallows cut up in there and cook it like a quesadilla.

It’s messy as hell but it’s definitely the fattest way to eat strawberries.

In a buckwheat crepe with some thinned goat cheese, spinach and/or rocket, freshly cracked pepper. Add a little red pepper jelly for zing.

I haven’t had a fresh strawberry pie in years, but they are delicious. I also don’t have a recipe.

Out of the ordinary:

Like what, strawberry jalapeño poppers?

quote:

Anyway, like I was sayin', strawberries are the fruit of the earth. You can barbecue em, boil em, broil em, bake em, saute em. Dey's uh, strawberry-kabobs, strawberry creole, strawberry gumbo. Pan fried, deep fried, stir-fried. There's pineapple strawberry, lemon strawberry, coconut strawberry, pepper strawberry, strawberry soup, strawberry stew, strawberry salad, strawberry and potatoes, strawberry burger, strawberry sandwich. That- that's about it.

But seriously, macerated strawberries are a versatile ingredient. Start by removing the leaves & stems, washing & chopping a pound of strawberries.

Next add 1/4-1/2 cup of sugar, depending on how sweet the strawberries are & how sweet you prefer.

Add 2floz of Grand Marnier & mux well. Place in an air tight container & put on refrigerator. Stir periodically and allow to macerate overnight.

The next morning, all of the sugar should be dissolved. Stir & sample.

You can put that shite on everything. It has an extended shelf life but the texture will deteriorate after about a week.

As you can imagine, it's fantastic on vanilla ice cream with fresh sliced strawberries.

Slice strawberries
Scoop sugar to taste, stir and let juices start to render out

Slice pie crust into strips
Bake until crisp
Crack into bowl
Top with strawberries/juice
Dollop of whipped cream

Enjoy

Serves Two

I call it The Maureen O'Hara.

Use two cereal bowls.

In each cereal bowl place 1 cup vanilla ice cream, 1/2 cup mashed, sweetened strawberries, a nice mound of whipped cream, finish with rainbow titty sprinkles and a maraschino cherry or small strawberry on top.

I picked up 2lbs of berries yesterday at Brookshires for $2 since Mom mentioned making one of these pies.

It'll be tomorrow or Sunday as we still have a bit of dump cake with chocolate, coconut, pineapple and cherries.

I'll grab the recipe for ya then!

Right here...

Has anyone noticed that Smuckers "preserves" are not anywhere close to what they use to be? They might as well call it jelly. There are no strawberry pieces in there.

We've done strawberry pepper jelly using this recipe. Next time I'd add in a pepper with a bit more heat to it but this stuff was a big hit and would keep forever. My wife would use it for the pepper jelly/cream cheese/cracker plate for appetizers around the holidays, I'd use it to baste ribs or wings on the smoker or make a dipping sauce for jalapeno poppers.

Not out of the ordinary, but below is a short video by Jacques Pepin on making what he calls strawberry preserves/jam. Nothing but strawberries and sugar baked in the oven at 170 for 12-14 hours. Easy, but does tie up the oven for a while. They look concentrated and tasty to me.

This is the one we use. I think it was pulled from a Weight Watchers or Sugar Busters book. We use 1 TBS of regular sugar instead of the 3 packets of sugar substitute. And fresh cream instead of low calorie Cool Whip.

Thanks! Maybe I should’ve chosen strawberries as our next challenge ingredient.
