Owners of Wrong Iron Opening Lafayette Location, The Yard Goat
Posted by YOURADHERE

LINK
I'd think this will do well and not like anything else around here.
quote:
The Yard Goat, a new large patio-style bar, is coming soon to Lafayette, Louisiana at 116 Bertrand Drive, near Moncus Park and UL Lafayette’s Cajun Field.
quote:
Like Wrong Iron, The Yard Goat will feature a similar layout boasting a large 11,000-square-foot patio with 11 mature live oaks, multiple fire pits, and private spaces for parties & corporate events. The patio will feature a large trellis system that supports a host of large TVs, heaters, and fans. Cause you know we have to have those fans in South Louisiana, lawd.

I'd think this will do well and not like anything else around here.

It's mindboggling to me that Parish Brewing has never gotten off their asses and done something more in the way of a taproom/outdoor beer garden type set up.

I love Parish beer but their tap room sucks. I think it is the small layout and the staff that works there that I didn't care for the few times I went there

Wish they would've put this on the other side of the river

The one in New Orleans is always crowded, especially for football games. Should do well.

Not to mention the fact its way the frick out of town. Easily could have opened a similar concept or smaller tap room somewhere in town and killed it.
With that being said if Yard Goat is anything like Wrong Iron they are going to do extremely well right there. Nothing like it around.

1) I am extremely excited. Lafayette does not have enough patio options IMO.
2) The concepts looks awesome, and I like to location in town.
3) I have no idea how they are going to fit that concept on that piece of property and have enough parking. It should be interesting.
4) Parish brewing are a bunch of lazy frickers.
5) What ever happened to the brewery that was supposed to open somewhere near Cajun Field? I think the owner of Tchop's Midcity is involved.

Adopted Dog Brewing, looks like they just posted today about starting to hire staff so it shouldn't be too long.

They have no incentive for a tap room. My good friend is in the industry and has talked to Andrew a few times. Andrew straight up told him he has no interest in the overhead of a large taproom. He would rather people walk through the doors and buy a $25 4 pack of something and then leave. That model seems to be working pretty good for him.

You can buy less than a month old Ghost at every major grocery store on a drive from an HEB in Houston to a Publix in Miami. They've put off going to Austin and Dallas because they can't produce much more beer. After Abita, Urban South and Parish are neck and neck for largest brewery in the state. One's highest selling beer by volume is a shite lager with terrible profit margins and the other is one of the best distributed IPAs in the United States. The last thing Parish needs is the headache of opening a beer garden/restaurant. Those Parish lazy frickers are doing just fine.

I get why Parish built their facility where they did, and let’s be honest, they couldn’t have know their beers were going to kill it financially the way they have.
Bayou Teche is all the way out in Arnaudville, and the beer isn’t quite the same quality as Parish. Yet people don’t mind driving all the way out there, as the place is packed on the weekends. It’s because they’ve made it a fun atmosphere.

Bayou Teche's focus isn't on the beer and it's on the fun atmosphere. They've done a great job at that!
Parish's focus is simply on the beer. Anytime Parish offers a beer that won't be available at this future beer garden, the Parish tap room is such a headache. Tons of money is made, but it's a nightmare. The quality of the beers would go down with a Parish beer garden/popular, large tap room with numerous exclusive rotating beers.
Honestly, as someone in the restaurant industry, I'm envious of their ability to just focus on producing great quality beer. The Wrong Iron guys know what they're doing, but this industry is 100x the headache of producing great beer.

Close down Velvet Cactus in BR to only open another bar in Lafayette. I figured and commented on VC thread they would open another bar. That’s how they got started with the bull dog and then Lagers.

Speaking of... Whatever happened to Wurst? Great concept and location but the owner is a huge toolbag. Everytime I've passed by there lately it's been closed
