The Wurst is still open, though quite sporadically, I'm assuming depending on when he can get people to actually work for him. I've passed by on weekends where the weather is nice and the place will be chained up shut.

The space is still listed for lease, they only want to lease it though, not sell the property/business outright.

Gotcha. It's unfortunate that he seemingly ran it into the ground.

This new place should do well I'd imagine

Seems like a very random location to choose, IMO. Would make sense downtown or on the other end of town, but it's just kinda randomly off of Johnston St, kinda near the park, but it's not like it's in an area where people are going to be walking around or anything.

I think it'll do well at that location.

-Mardi Gras season; location right off of route
-Natural pre/post meet-up spot throughout year from: Cajun games (FB/MBB/BB), Moncus Park events/festivals, new performing arts center
-On an existing Laffy bike route

If they can pump resources into it the first 5 months while the Lafayette new car smell is on it and everyone flocks to it, they can survive and thrive.

My only worry with the location is parking as someone mentioned earlier. Its an odd piece of property to pick although the location is very good.

parking

There's no parking at Legends on Bertrand, but it makes it.

Yeah. There was a big push to develop that stretch of Bertrand between Moncus park and Cajun Field when they reduced the traffic from 4 lanes down to 2 and put in bike lanes. This fits in with that vision I think

The development has been pretty slow but I can see it working especially if it piggy backs off of Legends and Deanos right there

If this place is going to be anything like wrong iron in new orleans it is going to be able host about 10x the amount of people as legends can and need parking for that.

I think that area has potential and would be an interesting area to develop, I just haven’t seen anything convincing me that it’ll happen. I hope it does, it would be really cool to have an area that is walkable with bars and restaurants post or pre football games. It might actually get more people out there.

I agree and hope it does as well. I recently moved off W Bayou and ride my bicycle for exercise (for extra cardio) The city has started clearing a bike path between W Bayou and Moncus so this would definitely interest me

What would happen to a bar like this if they opened in Baton Rouge?

Mid City Beer Garden would probably be the most similar place in BR I’d imagine
