Haven't lived in NOLA in many yrs(although a very frequent visitor ). Recently started spending a lot of time for family reasons. Name some smaller, interesting places I might have missed . Open to price/ cuisine. MidCity, Uptown, Marigny, Old Metairie , Central City

I'll toss a couple options out there for casual fine dining: Apolline (Uptown) and Rue 127 (Mid-City). Both are excellent and neither gets enough pub or chatter.

Lola's. Nice little Spanish place near City Park. My wife picked it out for her 40th birthday. I think they only take cash -- we Ubered and had a lot of wine that night -- but there's a decent neighborhood grocery store across the street with an ATM.

Not hole in the wall type places, but:

Sac-a-Lait - I thought it was excellent when I went. Never hear about it because their menu was ridiculously expensive when they opened. They pivoted in terms of how their menu is arranged.

Dante's Kitchen - always have good meals here and great bar service.

Bayona - always overlooked because its seemingly been around forever and in the quarter. Haven't been in a while myself.

Carrolton Market - I like the food and the atmosphere.

Jamila's Cafe on Maple. Small, Tunisian and Mediterranean place that is a fun evening. Jamila cooks while her husband serves the food. He often takes folks in the back to see Jamila cooking and shake her hand, and will offer a complimentary round of Port with dessert. They had a belly dancer when I went.

Red Gravy is an awful tourist trap.

Bayona is definitely one that's underrated. Another underrated one in the FQ is Pelican Club. Usually go for restaurant week and always have a great meal.

Here are a few others than I think are great, but rarely on the "lists":

Mandina's in Mid-City
Upperline Uptown
Capdeville in the CBD

Wrong. There's nothing touristy about Red Gravy.

Green Goddess is good.. Also, Carmo on Julia Street is cool. It's a South American vegetarian restaurant with a healthy juice bar. Cafe Carmo

About 5-6 years ago not long after she opened I remember having several good meals there for a fair price.

Red Gravy has also been awarded best brunch in the city for several years. To say it's a tourist trap is absurd. For St. Joseph's Day, she made pasta al forno con sarde e finocchietto that was out of this world. Tourist traps don't serve food like this.
