Is it still cool to order these?

I've never really ordered cocktails out before, but I'll be honest, after watching Mad Men, I want to drink like Don Draper.

Yes, it is still a great drink. I start off with an Old Fashioned for most of my nice dinners.

Old Fashioneds are never old fashion.

i love an old fashion, but i have found many bars that either don't know what it is or just make a terrible one.

I'm kind of worried about this. We're going to a local bar tonight to celebrate the end of the school year.

I like Old Fashioneds. But lately, I've been going with Sazeracs when I go out for dinner.

I'm fortunate to be able to go to nice restaurants on a regular basis, I feel like it's a waste to not let the professional bartenders make me a nice cocktail.

I think some bars just don't want to make them. High volume bars will roll their eyes or say they can't make them just to avoid the process. A little time consuming, compared to a Jack and Coke.

If you're going to a college bar, don't order an old fashioned. It will be terrible.

If you want to drink like Don Draper, just get some J&B Scotch on the rocks or neat.

Why are you concerned with this? Drink what you like.

possibly, but those bars are the ones i will not return to.

if you're a fully stocked bar and i know you have everything readily available to make the drink but you still don't, i'm out.

R2R told me about the billet smash (?) at the rusty nail that was their version of it. that was a damn fine drink.

Cotton in Monroe makes the best one I've ever had.

wow that's a pretty lame reason to drink something.

you should drink old fashioneds because they're delicious, not because you're trying to emulate the chutzpah of a fictional character.

and fwiw, I make the best old fashioned in New Orleans

Well I've never had one before, so how else would I know it exists?

How old are you? Could be a product of your age and who you hang out with and where y'all hang out.

I try an OF every time I go to a new restaurant or bar to see how they compare to others I've had. Like someone said already it's surprising how many variations there are on it and how often bartenders screw them up.
