One night in SF

Where would you have dinner. It'll be just my wife and I and we're pretty much open to anything. It's been awhile but when we were last there, we ate at State Bird Provisions which we enjoyed. Also wouldn't mind driving over to Oakland if there's something worth the drive.....there is a brewery that I want to check out over there.

Had good meals at (but unsure of status of any of them):
Mission Chinese
Zuni Cafe
Boulevard
Cockscomb
Liloho Yacht Club
Of those I’d probably choose Zuni. Sit at the bar, eat some oysters chased with rose, French fries, roast chicken with panzanella.

I was going to recommend the quirky old Chinese restaurant (Sam Wo) famous for its rude service, but I looked it up and they went out of business in 2012. Been many years since I’ve been to SF.
I’ve had good luck in other cities browsing through the places that Diners, Drive-ins and Dives have highlighted over the years.

For a great evening in a novel venue try Foreign Cinema in the Mission district. LINK /
Gifted an anniversary dinner to my son who lives out there... his 1st choice. Absolutely tourist free.
SF is still very cautious about Covid, and many places are still using limited or outdoor seating. Be sure to ask.
Have a great time.

Best meal I’ve ever had was Lazy Bear. Flour+Water is really good. As someone else mentioned Mission Chinese is very good as well, and very unique.

Was just there last week, and I didn’t notice any restaurants with limited seating, though I’m sure it exists somewhere. With that said, the only place in the entire city that so much as required a mask was the SFMOMA.

- Rich Table
- Coqueta
- Swan Oyster Depot (this would be a lunch recommendation)
- Pearl’s Deluxe Burgers
- Sam’s Tavern
- Begoni Bistro
- Berliner Berliner (Took over for Rosamunde last fall, which was one of the more-popular places for people to grab food when drinking at Toronado)
- Nopa (Assuming I don’t get too drunk at Toronado, love trying to get a table here)
- Burma Love (sister to Burma Superstar; good alternative if you don’t want to go out to Richmond. I’ve only been to Mission location for Love)
- Lolo
- El Techo (much better Mexican on Mission, but it’s hard to beat the rooftop view here)

Had a fantastic lunch there. Sat up at the food counter.

Original Pattern. It's just one that came across my feed and I liked the range of beers they were brewing but I'm open to other suggestions. I don't want a place that's all IPAs or all sours. I like a variety and am a fan of darker beers. We're going to Napa from SF and definitely planning a trip up to Russian River Brewery.
Thanks for all the restaurant suggestions. I'll do a little homework and post an update.

When I'm in the Bay Area for work, most of my time is spent between SF and Palo Alto, but this is a cool area of Oakland that I've been to. Worth checking out, if this a brewery you really want to go to. Easy go on the BART.
Otherwise, there are some very, very good beer bars in SF that'd make your one day/night easier to navigate. Cellarmaker is popular, of course, but very good draft variety in the taproom. Right near City Beer Store, which has a great rotation of draft beers and cans. From there, Monk's Kettle and Toronado (one of the best beer bars you'll find) are worth stops.
If you do end up at Cellarmaker / City Beer Store, you'll walk by plenty of homeless and drug addicts (just as you would in Tenderloin, if your hotel is near there). It's a quick walk, and they keep to themselves, but it can be unsettling at first.
