I will give a shout out to Zatarains Black Bean and Rice mix. It's pretty damn good. Add extra peppers and fresh tomato after you fluff. Great for Mexican style meals or with tacos.

I grew up on Oak Grove jambalaya when we needed something quick. I love it. Then I got some of the Slap Ya Mama's jambalaya mix and its even better. I stumbled across it at a local Rouses. I ended up ordering a case of it online since Rouses never had it in stock when I went back.

This guy will drive you crazy, but he sort of makes me want to make the Oak Grove and doctor it up a bit.

I keep it at the squirrel house all the time. Then my daughter comes in town and flies back north with it.

They have damn good smoked sausage too. They sell it at the smokehouse on old Jefferson right next to the primary school.

I’ll try it, but I’ll tell you what isn’t awesome: Tony Chachere’s or Zatarain’s jambalaya mix.

They’re better than nothing when they’re the only box mixes carried by your local grocer.

Oak Grove is a staple in my house. Excellent for a quick meal. I've only had the dirty rice and jambalaya, but both are excellent.

Picked some up last night based on this thread for a quick weeknight jambalaya. Can confirm it was really good and will likely be our new staple for when we crave jambalaya

Nah, I’ll just eat something else. I won’t turn them down if they are served where I’m a guest, but I won’t buy them to make myself. I’m also very far from being a food snob.

I use Oak Grove WAY more than making a homemade jamb

Ya know, I didn't like jambalaya as a kid because my family always used mixes. When I finally had good homemade jambalaya (thanks to 4miles), my world was changed. And I stole his recipe.

I like Oak Grove mix though.

I like Jambalaya from scratch and also like a mix for a quick dinner. Nothing wrong with a mix for a pot on the stove at the house.

If it’s a mix, I’m using Oak Grove. No reason to doctor it up. Cook your sausage and then your meat. Season your meat. Then add the water and the mix. Nothing else is needed.

Jambalaya Girl

First found it at Costco. Pleasantly surprise how good it was. The only way I make it now. Oak Grove is very good though.

I brown my sausage, while that's going on I debone a rotisserie chicken. I think the only difference is they call to put the sausage in the water.

Thanks. I was wondering about adding onions after browning the sausage to brown those and then some bell pepper. Sounds like it doesn't need that, though.

Send me an email and I'll mail you a care package. It's probably local to S LA but it is the best you will find besides a scratch jamb. Since you said all you have is Tony C's up there I feel it is my duty as a Louisianian to send you some.
