Taking the girls to NOLA for the first time. I haven't been in years, so I figured I would get some recommendations here. I have called the Hilton and the Monteleone, but no vacancy. Are there any other hotels close to downtown that is a pretty safe area? Thanks!

Nope. Might as well stay home.

There are 35,000 hotel rooms in Nola so I’m sure you can find something.
Go to marriotts website and search your dates

Check the Westin, Windsor Court, Ace Hotel. Good hotels in good areas

And please get out of the French Quarter some while here

I usually stay at one of the Marriot hotels because of points. I did recently stay at Hotel Peter and Paul and it was a unique hotel, it use to be an old catholic church they converted to a hotel. Didn't eat at the restaurant but they had a good bar.

Go to the North Shore (Nawt Shaw), it's safer and day by day, the restaurants are getting better than NO.

I grew up there, I have not crossed the 17th St. Canal in years, don't miss it at all. I personally knew 3 murder victims who thought it was safe. There is no viable police presence, it definitely is too dangerous for children.

Whatever you do, don’t stay at the Ritz Carlton on Canal.

Get a suite at the Windsor Court. Take them to tea in the afternoon. I love the lunches there as well.

I’m surprised some of y’all are able to leave the house with this much fear. I spent a week in NOLA at the beginning of the month and was never in danger once.

Well, I see there is still a big contingent of a$$holes still in nola, just like when I used to live there. I was asking because I have small girls and I would hate to have to shoot a m'fer, but I will if need be. Two dudes tried to car jack me when I lived there and it was in a "good part" of the city, so I know you gotta watch yourself. I stayed at the Hyatt behind the superdome, and it was a shady crowd in full effect there. Thanks to all you that tried to help. Kiss my a$$ to all the smarta$$es. Lol

Must have been a special event around the Hyatt if there was a bad crowd around. That is not a bad area at all.

I reiterate the Windsor Court and afternoon tea there. Are there other activities/restaurants you're looking for?
