I don't really like tequila. I don't make many tequila drinks, and when I do, it's just a margarita. I can taste the difference in quality between a Patron silver and Jose Cuervo.

I am seeking 2 things:

1) A silver tequila that comes in 1.75L (handle) size that is reasonably priced that can serve as an upgrade in my bar. I usually buy regular Jose Cuervo and I really don't enjoy it. Help me find a brand that will be a better standalone well tequila in my bar for when company comes over.

2) Recommended me one anejo or reposado bottle below $75 that might bring me around on tequila. I have a decent bourbon, scotch, and rum collection, but have never ventured into tequila. Change my mind on it.

I'm looking for gateway products here, not something very niche or unorthodox.

TIA

For mixing? Just get the Kirklands tequila. Its better than Cuervo

For mixing:

Camarena Reposado. Can get it for $20 a bottle.

For sipping
:

Artenom Anejo

Total aging of almost 3 years, first in used Cabernet Franc wine barrels from the Loire Valley of France for a minimum of 14 months then laid into toasted American white oak previously used to age either Canadian whiskey or Tennessee rye whiskey, for a minimum of 14 additional months.

For your well one, espolon, altos, and cimarron are all $20-25 and good, 100% agave. Fortaleza is the best respo I have had, around $50, and tequila ocho is also good. El Tesoro anejo and paradiso are very good as well.

While this tequila is a lot better than Jose Cuervo, I find it a bit overpriced compared to some of the better offerings that are lower in price.

Cadazores

You mean Cazadores?

I was trying to translate Cadazores... "each zore" like each island in the Azores archipelago?

It's over of the cheaper brands but don't overlook Sauza Anejo. It comes in at $16/bottle. Very good for mixing.

Agree that Espolon silver is a pretty good fit for your first question.

For a gateway sipping tequila, maybe try a really good blanco instead. At $75, I really like Casa Dragones Blanco.

Check out 21 seed flavored tequilas too for something different. I haven’t mixed them but I bet it could make some interesting drinks. I have them in the freezer for sipping. Orange is everyone’s fav but I really like the cucumber jalapeño. The grapefruit is ok but I’d rather orange.
