I like basil Hayden’s , hate Jim beam. So I was asking for another point of view from people that really drink it.

Is that due to the grain shortage from few years back?
I think Buffalo Trace has done a great job marketing it with small things like appearing in the John Wick movies. Plus it's snowballed with people hoarding it instead of actually drinking. I am in a Facebook group where there are more people boasting how they bought up the case of Blanton's (or some other allocated bourbon) to go with the 6 they already have. The people who are buying only a bottle or 2 at a time to actually drink. While I am sitting on a bottle of regular Blanton's and a Blanton's Gold I am almost afraid of opening them as I have no idea when/if I'd be able to restock. Though I am very close to opening one for this weekend.

Russell's Reserve 10 year or the 6 year rye.

Old Forester 1920 or Four Roses Single Barrel, as far as stuff that’s readily available. Blanton’s or E.H. Taylor Single Barrel/Barrel Proof for stuff that pops up occasionally.

I'll recommend what I've been drinking as of late.
$30 and under:
Henry McKenna 10yr Bottled in Bond (My favorite under $30)
Russell's Reserve 10yr
$40-60:
Old Forester 1897 Bottled in Bond (My favorite in this price range at the moment)
Blanton's is always great
Colonel E.H. Taylor Small Batch and Single Barrel. Single barrel is better but is also $20 more than the small batch.
You don't need to spend a lot of money for a great bottle of Bourbon. For the most part, once you get past $60 you're just paying a lot of money for Bourbon that's only marginally better if it's even better at all.

I bought a bottle of Eagle Rare the other day. The clerk told me they get a case now and then, and they put out only one bottle at a time to avoid hoarders.
Odd, because I see a fair bit of it on the shelf at two other places.

Not sure what you have access to, but these are some favorites and regulars of mine:

200$
You've got your $20-40
then $41-$75 is all pretty good.
After that we're talking hard to find and really expensive, and there's absolutely no reason to try that hard. Go the $50 route. He'll appreciate that.

There is a severe shortage of good bourbon. Most of the good stuff doesn’t hit the shelves. Plenty of stuff priced twice it’s value does. Much better selections if you want scotch. What price point?

Four Roses Single Barrel is my favorite easy to find bourbon.

Elijah Craig barrel proof at around $75 should be a top pick, perhaps add in a good store pick also

Blanton's and a Blanton's Gold
Used to import it. Then InBev bought Master of Malt. Then tariffs. Wish I had saved a few bottles of the gold and SFTB. Balls.

I second the Old Forester 1897 Bottled in Bond. That is some smooth sipping bourbon.
