Blantons is always good, and not too expensive but certainly not cheap

Bedhog beat me to it

Might be the smoothest bourbon I've ever had

Blanton's. But that is very hard if not impossible to find in the average or above average liquor store.

Go the pappy's route and he'll think you're trying to hard.

Bowman Brothers or Balcones (yes is a scotch whiskey but its damn good) and he'll think you put some thought into it.

Hard to beat Blantons as a gift choice. It comes across as pricey but it's not too expensive and tastes amazing.

Price Range?

I like Eagle rare, EH Taylor, Blantons (but the hype has exceeded its availability), Elijah Craig...

WL Weller

Old Weller 107

All Buffalo Trace brands, IIRC

If you can find it. One of my favorites but around Houston I haven't seen a bottle on the shelf in years other than at a couple of bars. And then it's hit or miss on if a pour is worth what they're asking.

Is that due to the grain shortage from few years back?
