Have had good meals at all three, but I agree that none of them are category killers, more middle of the pack, maybe SG in the lower third.

Since I've lived here TJ Ribs is the only place that truly didn't live up to the hype. it's over priced too.

Chimes is a close second, but I wasn't really dissapointed since I wasn't expecting it to be good. it's a bar. Poboys and fried shite are safe. I didn't go in expecting fine dining. Locals seem to romanticize Chimes, but it's just a bar with a lot of beer choices. Every decent sized city has one and they are all pretty much the same story.

Don's seafood is absolutely terrible. Especially the one in Denham.

Got an 8 oz tilapia, with some TV dinner microwavable squash and zuccinni there once for 21 bucks.

The only other time I have been there I got 3 pounds of little crawfish, and half a dozen decent oysters.

Nagoya is awesome for 11 bucks. Go there at lunch and eat some average sushi and get a little ice cream.

If I go for dinner, I just clean out their sashimi.

I have NEVER been disappointed with Ruffino's. That spot always delivers

I have not been here this long, but I agree Ginos and Mansures were over rated.
Service was terrible and the food was mediocre

just went to gino's last weekend. I had a great meal and thought the service was very good. the entrees are reasonably priced and it's a nice place. I thought it was a good value as always.

TJ Ribbs (not even the best ribs in BR)
Mike Anderson's (borderline sucky)
Tsunami's
Serrano's
Pasttime Junior (nothing at all compared to main store)
Rocco's

you've heard hype about TJ Ribs? I've never heard anyone even mention that place in the 5 years I've lived here.

I have people tell me that it is awesome on a monthly basis.

I, however, have only eaten there twice--both times over 2 years ago. I thought it was good, but nothing to scream about.

having grown up in Texas/Oklahoma area i've eaten a lot of bbq. I asked my Baton Rouge friends where I could go to get some good BBQ. I was told TJ Ribs would beat any BBQ I've eaten anywhere, especially the baby back ribs. i went in with an open mind. they were exactly wrong.

I also lived in Houston (the area) for 3+ years and have made return trips. The BBQ there is just better. BR doesn't have solid BBQ all over the place. You can find decent stuff from time to time, but you have to take the time and effort to find it. TJ Ribs has okay bbq, but it is definitly not the best. Sonny's is better. Voodoo might be slightly better, but it isn't that awesome, either.

I really think Gino's has kept their prices the same since 1980....its weird. I have been going there since I was a wee lad....when I was young, I would only eat the pizza (which is awesome!!!) but I remember it being 'expensive'- it was always for some special occasion for my family....
for some reason, we didn't go for a while, then when going back, it didn't seem so expensive...however, maybe my views of money just changed. I mean, I remember when my dad bought me disney stock and I made $1000 and thought it was a ton of money....

Chelsea's Cafe is easily the most overated...crappy food + subpar service...stick to serving drinks and live music

It's a good place to get a good chopped beef or sliced pork sandwich with a good, light bbq sauce. It doesn't claim to be anything else. You would like it as I have for 40 years. It is what it is. A good little joint to get a quick, cheap sandwich and an ice cold coke in a glass bottle. I happen to like the lighter, thinner sauces that aren't sweet.

Chelsea's and The Chime's are bars that have food. They are a fun place to go drink and hang out. They happen to have food, it is bar food. How in the world can they be overrated?

Jilted employee? Chelsea's is very solid and even a bit innovative.
