I hate food snobs.

Dinner table ettiquite is about the actions of the dinners not their food choices. You want to bitch about someone slurping from a cup or a spoon, clicking their teeth on their fork, or sitting with their elbows on the table fine. When you start telling people they are wrong for eating a food or foods a particular way, you have in turn limited your expierances and labled yourself in the process. Feel free to suggest that there MAY be a better experience to be had if certain foods are consumed a certain way but dont cross the line and tell someone their way is wrong. If they want mayo on a hotdog, a steak grilled over gas, a glass of white zin, or mixed wasabi/soy then so be it.

This

And if someone in a restaurant ever tells me that I shouldn't mix my wasabi in the soy sauce, I will assume that it is you and stab him in the eye with my chopsticks.

In Japan, a lot of folks use their fingers to eat sushi.

Am I the only one who categorizes this with marinating with Italian dressing and stuffing things with cream cheese?

I'm not completely certain, but I'm pretty sure this is the most inconsequential question I've read on TD in a month.

Instead of feeling a rush of fire up the sinuses when you eat wasabi as it was intended, you get a mildly spicy soy sauce instead.

Not if you put enough wasabi. I load it up and the rush is actually more intense.

I don't add anything that the chef didn't add.

Do the condiments they add on the plate not count?

Yes, but instead of using my fingers, I use the tip of my chopstick. The correct, historical, and most enjoyable way to eat sushi or sashimi is smear a little wasabi under the fish, lightly dab the top of the fish in soy sauce and eat. When you get to your last chew, cleanse your palate with the pickled ginger.

Rolls? Glassman, I look down on people who eat rolls about the same as those who eat at chain restaurants.

...you suck dicks. amirite?

This thread is terrible. Another foob snob that looks down on people for the stupidest of shite. Who cares if someone wants to eat rolls? Who cares if someone wants to mix wasabi and soy sauce? Why does it make a difference to anyone?

(note, this isn't directed at you, powerman. I just clicked reply cuz you're last in line )

Do they take their shoes off upon entering the restaurant?

Most of these "Chefs" that you speak of are hardly chefs at all but rather mere assemblers. Nagoya, Taiko, and Ginza don't put any wasabi in the nigiri sushi that I tried, which I found strange, especially with under seasoned rice. A true chef would properly season his ingredients.

you are a clown. the point is to enjoy the taste of the fish, hence putting wasabi underneath would merely mask the flavor of the sashimi.

Oh and on the soy, most don't use it for sashimi, it's commonly used for rolls...but you were "above" that.

What a clown.
