Looking at getting one for Christmas this year. Meater is the one I have seen the most on. Anyone have a different brand they recommend and why?

Thermoworks rfx wireless
Reliable
Customer service is second to none
Doesn’t drop signal as much as the others or at all really.

Thermoworks RFX
I recommend 2 probes to start.
Don't look back

If a wireless probe isn't important to you, then look at Thermoworks Smoke. Still get wireless monitoring but less expensive overall.

I got the thermoworks smoke 4 channel. Wired reliability, no app needed. It also controls the billows, which is really nice.

I have the smoke because the RFX is so damn expensive. It works great but I will say if you have to run an errand or leave the house, having it on an app would be really nice.

Another vote for Thermoworks RFX (or the Signals if you don’t mind wires). If you go with the RFX snag the charging dock too, it’s awesome not having to deal with AAA batteries.

I use my Thermoworks Thermapen a lot to spot check while cooking. I use this one most of the time
I have an older basic model Thermoworks Smoke as well if I want to use a leave in thermometer

Thermoworks…
I have the smoke 4 channel and have for a few years. It’s reliable and the signal works through your home to your handheld receiver.
It’ll give you line of site signal for at least 40-50yds.
I’ve also used the RFX and it’s money as well. Use the app and you can add as many probes as you want.

I'm a big fan of Thermoworks products, but I got a Typhur Synch Gold Dual set of a base station and two wireless probes that I really like. App works great too, so you can monitor temps via your phone or the base station.
Regular price is about $199. It was on sale last Christmas, a YouTuber I like pimped it, and I made a somewhat impulse buy. I've really enjoyed it. I like the two probes, even when cooking one item, so you can get a constant read from different areas (like flat and point, or breast and thigh) .

I will say I fricking hate the charging stations for the probe on the rfx, I have no fricking idea if its charging or not sometimes. I really hate when I'm about to start a smoke and some of the probes didn't charge.

Support for meater is waning on this board...
I've used them for at least 5 years. The original one did great as far as temps go, but I had a ton of issues with it staying connected inside my smoker.
I got the pro last year (after debating other products) and it works much better. I did want 4 probes so I got the block bundle when it was on a really good sale before Christmas. I think that helps with the connection issues as well.
Main thing that swayed me away from the RFX was having the probe temp gauge still need a wire. I like the completely wireless system.

Charging block is on my Christmas list. If they would have had that when I bought mine, I would have purchased it then.

I still have the OG Meater+, but I only use it for whole chickens, butts, briskets, big stuff because the probe is so thick and I can just check easily with a thermapen for shorter cooks. I get great range, I set the block on the outside smoker shelf so it always has connection, and I can go almost anywhere on my house and still get a reading.

I've had the Thermoworks Smoke dual series for several years and like it.
