re: Buying a Toyota Hilux in the US could become reality

I thought we were talking about the Hilux, not a Hilux Champ, a totally different truck.
You can't get a new Hilux anywhere on the planet for anywhere near 15k usd.

That's not a Hilux, it's a 70 series land cruiser.
re: Missing American Hero: The kindly, knowledgeable auto parts counter man

I miss knowledgeable counter workers at dealers. They are completely useless, they must have a vin number.
Luckily one of the parts guys at Acadiana dodge jeep has been doing it for years. I was buying parts from him from Lafayette Motors around 25 years ago. I'm going to miss him when he retires.

re: What car batteries do you baws have?

I've had bad luck with a couple of interstate batteries, and have talked to a couple of mechanics who won't use them anymore. Last one I had was made in Mexico.
And Costco prorates immediately, so there is no free replacement even if it fails shortly after you purchase.

I don't suggest going to Jomashop for a high end watch. You often end up forfeiting your manufacturer warranty for their warranty which is inferior in every possible measurement.
I got my Omega from Jomashop because the price difference was significant. My thought was even if I had to immediately send it to Omega and pay out of pocket for service, still cheaper than what I could have negotiated with an authorized dealer.

Penfed Credit Union has been the best rates I've found in the past.
I don't know if they sell it everyday, but Earl's on Verot has great potato salad on their BBQ plates on Wednesdays and Sundays.
re: A US bomb exploded at Tokyo airport, no causalities. Never forget Pearl Harbor.

It's about 500 miles from Tokyo.
When I need mine serviced, I'll probably use rolliworks. I haven't heard of anyone local I'd trust.

First Horizon did my paper ibonds for me last year. It took a long time because they all had to be done individually. It was only 5k though, but lots of small denomination ones.
For $900? I just found out a way to make that in an hour.
re: Explain to me how body shops “work” these days
Posted by LazyDaveD on 1/5/24 at 1:54 pm to JackieSonnier
My buddy owns a body shop, he'll turn down jobs if they aren't insurance. He can't fully know the damage until he starts tearing the car apart, and people are unwilling to pay for repairs that aren't quoted upfront. Insurance will.

I like the Pyrex. Stuff lasts forever
There is a difference between PYREX and pyrex. PYREX is made of borosilicate, and more heat resistant, so of better quality.

Olive Branch Mediterranean and Mudtown Eat & Drink were 2 of my favorites when I lived there, behind the summit.

This is a good site to show value, just remember you have to go back 3 months if less than 5 years old. They'll update it once the new rate is officially announced.

Helen St. Bakehouse in Lake Charles
Posted by LazyDaveD on 10/4/22 at 8:00 pm
I was in Lake Charles for work and noticed this place wasn't too far away from the office. I got a croissant and a baquette, both were excellent. Crumbs everywhere when cutting into the baquette, the way it should be.
