Someone moving out here to Atlanta asked me what we can't get here in Atlanta, that we always bring back when we make a trip. Over the years we've learned where to find things, found reasonable substitutes, or we've learned how to make it ourselves. But these are the things we haven't learned to make and cannot find in Atlanta without paying highway robbery ...

Cajun Land Creole Seasoning
Cajun Land Crab Boil
Chackbay Crab Boil
Benoit's Best Salt Free Seasoning
Zatarain's Root Beer Extract
Zatarain's Creole Mustard
Steen's Cane Syrup
Good Louisiana Fig Preserves
Creole Pickled Meat
Creole Hot Sausage
DD Smoked Sausage
LaPlace Andouille
Real Louisiana Boudin
Fresh Louisiana Gulf Oysters
Legit King Cake
Big Shot Cold Drinks
Barq's Red Cream Soda
Barq's Golden Cream Soda
Barq's Diet Root Beer
Chee Wees
La Tiera Taco Shells (not a Louisiana product per se, but can't find them here and they're the best)

To other folks living outside Louisiana, what food items do you usually bring back with you after making a trip home?

My brother-in-law lives in right outside Atlanta and he makes it a habit of bringing back CDM Coffee & Chickory, Boudin, Andouille from Bailey's in Laplace, a couple muffalettas from Central Grocery, some Zatarain's products, seafood boil seasoning, fresh shrimp and whatever I'm willing to part with from my well stocked freezer in already cooked foods.

He is especially fond of my gumbo and begs to take all my crawfish bisque------but that ain't happening.

Live up north...the main thing is smoked sausage vs brats. I’m not a fan of brats.

Smoked Sausage : I buy a variety of brands, pork sausage
Cajun Power Garlic Sauce and Sweet Treat for cinnamon toast. Their Lightning hot sauce is excellent as well.
Kary’s Dry Roux....good for adding flavor to gravy.
Boudin if I’m in south Louisiana. If at the in-laws in north LA, hard pass.

At Christmas I brought back several Louisiana IPAs but bought an entire case of the goat, Ghost in the Machine.

I am Baton Rouge born and raised, and my fiance' is also a South Louisianian...we live in Boston.

Our staples are hard to find here, so we generally bring back Crystal and crab boil.

My mom sent us home with some file' after Christmas, which was awesome.

ETA: We fly, so we're limited in regards to what we can bring home.

Usually some Manda’s andouille sausage and boudin

Most other things are not that hard to either find or order online.

La Tiera Taco Shells

Take my upvote. I mostly go for tortillas when I make tacos, but for hard shell tacos they are the best! So thin and crispy.

My dad was a native Texan but he lived in Louisiana so long that when he moved back to TX before he died he would request I’d bring him Central Grocery olive salad and CDM Coffee when we visited.

When I was little and we lived in south Texas for a few years my grandma would ship us pickled pork, red beans, and Barq’s. And king cakes from McKenzies!
